When I traded in the 2001 Santa Fe this was one of the things I wanted to keep, so I removed it.  When I went to reinstall it in the new 2005 Niagara I discovered that the adaptor ring had rusted badly.  Now as has been discussed before this ring is not available as an individual part, only as part of the full RV kit so I was kind of bummed out.  I sent an e-mail to Marinco and within a day I had a reply that they were sending me a new ring free of charge. I must say, great customer service.  I would highly recommend this mod for anyone who thinks it may help them out.

Now, because the installation was so similar to the Santa Fe I did not take any new photos.

I like this mod, except that you still have to find a place to put the cord. Oh, I suppose it could be thrown into the back of the truck or something. Nevertheless, it looks like a clean modification, and is probably easier to setup/takedown than the routine we go through to make sure a clean cord gets put back into the camper:

"Are you ready?"

"Yes. Wait a minute. Where's the towel?"

"Around here." (Walks around the camper to get towel, then back around to the hookup side.)

"Ready now?"

"Yes. Are you ready?"

"Yes. Let me unplug it."

"Ready now?"

"Yes. Start pulling."

"Ok."

"Six feet left. Three feet left. Almost done. Wait!" (wipes off end that has been dragging through leaves and mud)

"OK. Take it up!"

I know what you mean about cleaning the cable. When I was getting ready to leave Fortwilderness last month I had to wipe the sand off of the power cord. It was a mess.

I don't see the BIG advantage. You still need to store the cord somewhere, and there's a possibility that you may forget it. I actually like the way the cord is self storing.

I agree, customer service ain't what it used to be. It's always nice to hear when companies back their products without giving the customer a hastle...

I think Larry hit the BIG advantage on the head... you dont have to worry about cleaning the cord while putting it back in.

Plus I get space under one of the seats to store more stuff.

If you look at the bottom of my web page you will see the bright yellow bag the cord is stored in.  Very difficult to miss while packing (actually we keep it in the front storage compartment on the Niagara.  Plus the bag is large enough to hold the cord, an extension cord, two white water hoses and my power adaptors.

We did this mod shortly after buying our Bayside.  Very nice.  Best thing is that it frees up a cabinet, which is where the cord gets stowed before mod.  The problem with that was in our Jayco the cabinet was separate but in the Bayside I stored things in that cabinet, not realizing that the electrical cord ends up in there - it was a PIA the next time we camped because the cord got hooked on the stuff I'd stored in the cabinet..... needless to say DH was not impressed.
