Greetings,
I have a general question and hoping someone can help me.  I am transferring video from a camcorder to my PC, the issue is converting the images to something that is usable and of small size.  I converted a video that is 1min 45sec to MPEG1 and the size is 16mb, if I convert to MPEG2, the video is 50mb.
I would like to be able to convert the video to a small size for email purposes.  I have a new Sony Vaio PC and it comes standard with video encoding software so guess I need assistance on which format to choose.  I have downloaded videos from the internet that were 10minutes in duration and only 10mb of size.

Thanks is advance,

The software that came with your camcorder should present you with many options of varying quality to save your files as.  Google "Video Editing" and you'll get a lot of places to start your search.  If you don't like the software that came with your camcorder you can purchase suites ranging in price from $50 on up.  I use Pinnacle, it meets my needs although some will take issue with it.  I'm not trying to win awards, I just want to edit out the dumb stuff from my video and save it to a DVD where I can easily view it.

You might check out Mike Shaw's to see what sort of software is available.

THe key is to compress the video.  This makes it grainy though.  Set the resolution to the lowest setting and that will save you MB's.  Also, if you do not many graphics or video effects, that will also save you space.

Enjoy.

Thanks for the replies, I used an application that came with Windows XP called Movie Maker.  Seems this program will take exisiting video or even capture video and compress this video for email applications.  Thanks for all the replies.

I forgot to add, if you can reduce the screen size for e-mail, that also saves on your total MB's.
