Hi all. My camping experience in the torrential rain storm in Southern California this weekend has cost me my original awning. it was torn off in a big gust in the middle of the night. Now I'm faced with the job of replacing it. I remember that there was a lot of interest in the "Carefree Awnings" being manufactured for Pop ups. I have found there website and am interested in the Super Sport model which opens up like most awnings on hard sides and motorhomes. I am just wondering if any one who reads these posts has one and can comment on them. I have a Coleman Niagra and they say that they will mount right to the original track that is mounted on the roof. any comments will be appreciated. Thank you, Larry

So far the only downside I've heard about lately is that you might have to accept a slightly shorter awning due to the fact the arms and mounting backets are outside the material and you need an "extra" 6 inches or so over the actual awning length. So the actual awning length plus 6 inches must fit on the actual length of the C channel. A 12 foot awning won't fit on a 12 foot track.

The folks at Carefree can give you the directions and measurments you need.

Sorry to hear about your original awning.

Can't speak on behalf of the Super Sport version, but the "Campout" version slips right into the existing "C" channel. (but you would need to install the support bar brackets to the roof and side wall of the PU)

The Super Sport looks like a sweet set-up, but was not available when I purchased my Campout a number of years ago.

If what Mike 4947 says is true (and he is generally right on the mark) about the sizing issue and it's problem for you, you might consider the the Campout. They are sized the same as your existing awning, and quite a bit cheaper than the Super Sport.

It looks like the Super Sport is a one hand set-up, but the Campout is  very easy also. Easier than my present day Coleman awning IMHO, even though I have become rather proficient with it.

I can't comment..........YET!

According to the literature (and photographs on the brochure) my NEW 2003 model (dealer leftover ;) ) Coachmen Clipper Sport Plus 128 is supposed to come with a carefree awning (looks like the super sport model too!!).  When I looked at the unit before I "signed on the dotted line" they could not find the awning - but the dealer stated (and wrote on my sale contract) that the camper would included "all equipment as stated in the original spec sheet" (which DID include the optional awning!)

I hope that is awning that is included by Viking (they make Coachmen as I'm sure most of you are aware of).  They look wonderfully simple  to setup/takedown.

The Campout bag awning from Carefree of Colorado is what we've seen as standard equipment on Vikings locally.

JMHO, but I prefer the campout to the Super Sport.

I would never put the SuperSport on my pop up.  This has a sliding mechanisim, which can put undo stress on your pop up lift system.  If you forget to loosen the slide on the SuperSport it could ruin your cable system on the pop up.  The Campout is one of thee best awnings for a pop up you can buy.  There are no loose parts on the Campout.  It takes about 5 minutes to set up, plus it's $100.00 less, for me it's a no brainer, Campout!
 Good luck and Happy Camping!!!!
