Hi alll! Good to be back.

What's this I'm reading:

" Huh? I wasn't anywhere near the computer last night, but have been feverishly trying to finish a quilt to auction off at our adoption agency's annual fundraising dinner next Saturday.

Okay, I can see we're going to have lay some ground rules now that griffsparents are both online. Here's the first one:

1) Dave is a lover of tall tales. That means he sometimes can't help himself in making stuff up. How can you tell when he's joshin' you? Well, as the old lawyer joke goes, how can you tell when a lawyer is lying? His lips are moving. Or in this case, his fingers.

I'm sure the rest of the rulebook will develop as we go along. "

Last time I checked my DW had 1,899 posts!!!!!!! According to Lori, she has the 3rd most posts on popuptimes. I only have 4. And DW was quilting and not posting???? I rest my case ladies and gentelmen.

Jacqui, when you use your generator is that for running your lights and tv at the same time or can you run additional appliances?  Also my recollection is that your PU does not have AC, right? But if your PU does have AC would your generator be able to run it? Thanks Jacqui for your help.

PS Griff says hi to Matchew!

Dave and Lori,

Now play nice.  Wouldn't want the lawyers to be banned or barred from the boards.

Here's what I learned about wireless from my techno-nephew.  The default settings for setting up a wireless network is to allow other users to use the Internet connection.  So when he showed up to my sister's house, which doesn't have a phone line or a cable, he just turned on his wireless connection.  The first day he couldn't connect, but the second night, apparently a neighbor had turned on a computer with a wireless router. My nephew was able to tap into that signal to use the internet.

Apparently it takes about 30 seconds to change the default setting so people cannot tap in that easily....but since home computers are set up for convenience, not security, the open connection is the norm.

Another interesting piece of information I read about is that every person that uses a DSL or cable modem should use a router even if they don't have a network.  So by getting a router, even wireless, the Mazes would improve their security and give Lori high speed access.

I'm going to jump in & give you my 2 cents about these generator things.  First, the Honda 2000EUi is sufficient for most stuff.  But, in talking with the service dept. at the RV place, the mgr. said he'd be reluctant to run the AC with a 2000 watt generator, even if the AC is only 13,500 BTU.  He said there'd be too much stress on the AC, not the generator.  The other thing to consider is something called the "surge" factor.  While all appliances might come in under the generator's "load", the initial start-up is usually quite a bit more than their running wattage.  That's why a home fridge couldn't be supported by the 2000 -- too much surge when it starts up.  So, I don't think you'd be able to run a telly & AC on a 2000EUi.  But, you might get away with the tv & microwave -- if you've got a low wattage one.  Mine's 700 watts -- the lowest I could find.

Don't know if this is helpful.  But it's been a good learning experience for me!

As far as the EU1000 it wouldn't be strong enough to run an a/c.  We use it to charge the battery for lights and the portable DVD player which is all we really wanted it for.  I don't know if the EU2000 would be strong enough for the a/c either.  You may want to ask that question on the General forum..  Nope, we don't have a/c but have been seriously thinking about it.  Only problem is I think it will cause a problem with the bike rack and Yakima basket we have installed on top.

Hi Dee and Georgeann:

Dee posts:

UHHHHHH. I better not answer that. It may cause grave bodily harm.
Just kiddin. Lori usually stays up late. You know, she's quilting. Lately I've been going to sleep early. However, with the longer days I'll probably be up late cruisin the boards with Lori once we go wireless.

Geogeann, Lori and I miss camping with you and Scott. Are you going to Pismo? We can't wait. Dee we miss your family too. Sorry we couldn't make it down to Newport Dunes. Little Griffy was sick and now Lori and I are both sick with this flu that's been going around. Quite nasty. Re: the avitar, I thought the SC Camper logo was cool. And I don't know how to do another avitar.

Dee, let me know which generator your going to get. Check out the Yamaha 2800. Dave

Georgeann:

I feel so stupid about Pismo. Sorry. Three cheers and a modello for Scott the wagonmaster!!!! Wow I'm up to 8 posts. I should have done this a long time ago. By the way, is Surfcal going to Pismo? Dave.

Oops!  I pulled a modified Otter.  That was me in that previous post.

g-whiz

"A modified Otter"???  I don't think so.  I think that being signed on as another person, but posting as yourself shall forever and to perpetuity be known as "pulling a Lori".

Opps, that last post was really me. I just "pulled a Lori".  :J
