The bad news is we had to cancel our trip to Umbagog Lake State Campground in July, would have been our 5th year. The good news is we added Blackwoods Campground in Acadia National Park. Anyone been there?
We are into hiking and kayaking n summer. It looks like a good spot for both.
Any tips on where to buy the best lobster and steamers at the best prices would be greatly appreciated!

Blackwoods is just as the name implies "Black Woods". At night you can't see anything without a light. I went last Aug with tlhdoc and genef. The CG is real quiet and has no hookups or showers. There are public showers about 1/4 mile from the CG entrance. There is a trail directly across from the CG entrance that goes to the top of Cadillac Mountain. I think it is about a 4-5 mile hike each way. My daughter and I did it two years ago when she was 9. The carriage trails offer lots of opportunities to walk or on some you can even ride you bike.

I live here near the coast so I didn't frequent any of the restaurants for lobster. Bring a big pot and buy some fresh ones and cook em up at you site.

I will be at Blackwoods sometime in April for my first trip of the season. Blackwoods is open year round but they don't plow the snow out. Camping is free from November until May 1st but there are no bathrooms either with the exception of porta-potties they put out for the winter campers. They did open the bathroom when I was there two years ago in mid-April.

The only time I drove my truck last August was the one day it was raining. The rest of the time, DD and I took the buses.

When are you going? Is it the same timeframe you planned on going to Umbagog?

I thought Genef told me that they were going there with you when I met him (He saw my Pop-up Times bumper sticker) at Umbagog! But I couldn't rmember for sure if it was him or someone else we met last summer! Yes it is that same weekend we were going to Umbagog.

I ALWAYS carry a couple of big pots- you never know when a couple of lobster or mess of steamers are going to drop by your campsite and say "cook me!"
The very BEST lobster and steamers always seem to be the ones you cook outdoors over a fire! I've even started cooking them that way at home! My wife loves it- I don't make a mess of the kitchen!

I knew about the lack of showers, although my wife didn't until I told her this past weekend!!

Thanks for the link to the buses.
