Hi everyone,

We're new to this board and are looking for other Virginians who love to camp!  Because of church commitments, we usually can only go a couple of hours away from Richmond.  We're planning on going to Pocahontas SP on April 1 if anyone else is interested in joining us!

Welcome, We too are also new to pop upping. Been about 5 times all last fall after we got our pop-up. Also have church commitments on Sunday, but plan on getting up early on Sunday's to break camp and head home. We usually camp at the Outdoor world in Williamsburg. Nice time there. We also have friends that live in Gordonsville, Va and could go to there church on Sunday and then head home.

Let me know how you like the state park.

We also hear that some cg's have church services right at the cg.

Thanks for the info on Outdoor World.  We were unable to go camping last weekend because of the heavy, heavy rains but we're still hoping for this weekend (I don't remember it being this wet in years - but that may just be because we're so ready to try out the camper!).

We've been to some of the church services at cg's and like them a lot but my husband directs music at our church, so we have to be there.  We do plan to do like you do, however, and just get up early and break camp as quietly as possible and head out.   Also, I see that VA state parks have a late check-out (3:00 I think) so we may be able to work out going back after church to check out - as long as we're not TOO far away.

I'll let you know about Pocahontas.

I don't think you are butting in since the thread has a post date of 2005 - perhaps 2-1/2 years ago.

Anyway, if you are coming from TN enroute the coast, you may also want to consider some of the Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds.

In the western part of the state at Philpott Lake is Goose Point COE.
In the southeastern section of Virginia there are several around Kerr Reservoir with North Bend COE and Rudds Creek COE being a couple of favorites.

State Parks - west to east - also include Claytor Lake SP, Smith Mountain SP, and Pocanontas SP.  Newly renovated facilities at CLSP and PSP as well as the COE campgrounds.

Hope this helps, have a safe trip.
