Please advise:
We took our PU out for the first time and noticed excessive bounce of our tow vehicle. We own a 97 GMC Sierra 1/2 ton PU truck. This vehicle should haul this trailer with no problems.

Problem: Excessive bounce even on moderate bumps in the road.

PU tounge weight: 200 LBS.(loaded)

Shocks: Would better shocks be advised? If so , what type.

The road is beating us to death. Thanks.

We have the same problem  :(  We tow a Coleman Cheyenne with a Chevy Venture.

I was advised on this board to install a Weight distribution hitch. I'll do that this weekend. I'll probably also upgrade my shocks. Ordered part number #4301 from hitchmart.com

Kids enjoy being bounced up and down in the back of the van, however after a 100 miles it gets kind of old for them  :)

More weight on the tongue will help too.

Did you load the trailer yet? When I drove my trailer home empty from the dealer, it bounced and swayed like a son of a gun. Once I loaded it and got 15 % of the weight on the tongue it was much better.

What about the tire pressure?
Make sure the pressure in the tires in the popup are at the max rating.
Also, don't forget the tire pressure in the truck's rear tires. If they are too hard, and the bed of your truck is empty, it can also cause too much bounce

Roads that get pounded with heavy truck traffic are notorious for setting up the "bounce". Assuming you hitch system is O.K. and cargo loads are correct and everything else such as tire pressure are up to par (and maybe sometimes just slowing down), might be an indicator that new shocks are needed for the TV.

I know from experience that H.D. shocks can make a BIG difference on how the TV handles the trailer ... just truckin' on down the road.
