Does anyone have any experience with the companies that build or make pre-fab buildings? My parents might be considering a building at their house, to store some things and maybe put in a work area for Dad (and maybe Mom too). They would probably need 1000 square feet or so (give or take 250 square feet), so nothing huge.

We get a magazine from our electric co-op, and they have several ads from various companies, including Arco, Heritage, Star, Blitz, and others. But I have never heard of any of them.

Any help?

I found links to the heritage and arco buildings. I also am posting a link to a place there in tennessee (assuming that is where your parents live also) that makes insulated buildings.

My cabin at the lake is built like the buildings in the flat creek village website. If they are wanting a work shop area that will can be cooled and heated then I highly recommend the insulated storage.

I dont know how much the ones are for the place I posted but I will give you the specs on  mine and how much I paid.

Size: 10X12ft, 80 inch side walls (highly recommended if you are going to get loft areas), I think the walls are approx 2" thick
Loft: 64 inch loft and 48 inch loft, both at 10 feet across (you lose some area up there due to slope)

Windows: 3 - 3x3ft double paned windows

The price didn't include electric but if you know anything about running electricity it would be fairly easy to install. Mine has pvc tubing on the outside to house the wires since my space is so small.

The total price was $1900, including building fee, windows, lofts and the higher sidewalls. The building on site fee was around $200. Since my area is sloped there wasn't enough space to get a truck in there and just drop it off. I think the windows were about $50-60 a piece.

I have a small 5,000 BTU 110 ac unit that keeps the cabin cool. Even in August it has no problems keeping cool. We haven't been there in the dead of winter but in the late fall and early spring I only have to use a small space heater (like the $16 one at walmart, that has a fan) to keep the cabin warm. And to tell the truth, a few times during the night I would have to turn the thing off.

I have seen these used as a garage, storage, cabins, etc.

I know mine isn't anywhere near the size your parents are wanting, but thought the information might give you some ideas.
