We bought a used 1996 Starcraft Starlounge and I cannot find anything in the paperwork that explains how you hook up the 12V battery.  We will always go camping where there is electricity (hubby is a city boy) but I would like to put the refridgerator on w/ the 12V on the way to/from the campgrounds.

I know from reading on here that we need a deep cycle 12V and I saw one at Wally World, but have no clue on how you set it up and see that it is charged.

Any help for this newbie is greatly appreciated.  Thank you!

Hi and Welcome to the board.

If I'm not mistaken, you can run the fridge on 12v while in transit being plugged in to the tow vehicle. (someon will correct me if I'm wrong)
This should be able to de done without a battery installed on the PU.

Provided the plug is wired properly on the tow vehicle, and all the fuses are installed, you can have 12v going to the trailer while you're towing. But don't you still need the battery as a "filter" in order for the 12v system to work?

You do not need a battery to run the fridge on DC power, if the TV (tow vehicle) has a hot line wired into the plug.:)

Do you know if your trailer is wired up for a battery? Usually, you will have a battery box mounted on the tongue of the trailer.

If so, there should be either: a red and black wire (Red is positive, black is negative); or a black and white wire (black is positive, white is negative). If you have these wires, hopefully they have terminal lugs, and you can connect them to the + and - terminals on the battery.

Does this help? Give us all the information you can glean from your trailer, I'm sure you'll get plenty of assistance.

OK, I do have a battery box on the tongue on the trailer and the refridgerator has the option of running on electric, propane, and 12V.  I believe all the wiring is also there.  Unfortunately, I have been out of town at a conference so will have to check "real" details and post again later.  Thank you all for your help.

FWIW--We were able to check out the heater this weekend while camping at Knoebel's Amusement Park in the Pocono Mountains.  We were the only family with heat during the cold and rain.  Made life much simplier and we were more comfortable than those friends who rented the cabins there.   :D
