Has anyone been to Balmorhea State Park?  I am going in July but may cancel since it is a 7 hour drive.  Please provide feedback on the park.  I have reserved a 4 night stay at the park.

We stayed there as an overnight in March on our way from Phoenix to Lockhart  TX to visit family. The park is desert camping, no shade or trees. There are marshs and tall grass surrounding the CG, I would think in July it may mean bugs. The winds whip through there pretty fierceful, we ended up closing up at 4:30am and head on out. The park was built in 1937 and still has the old charm of that. The CG itself is new and was quite busy when we were there., lots of tents and PU. The lake (pool) is used by many scuba divers and there were families that swam in it but the bottom of it is slimy because it is a natural spring pool. Temps of the pool are 74-78 year round.

If I were you, I would go up to the Davis Mountains which is only about 30 minutes more. The weather will be very hot due to the desert temps. I would check that out too.

Hope this helps.
