Over the years when moving up to a newer model, I have sold two popups and traded in one...Selling it my self has been the most profitable....May take a while, but for me it was well worth the wait...I will not trade in again...Also, with some dealers you can bargain for a better price if there is no trade........

Thanks Old goat.  That's kinda the direction we are going.

My experience was..The dealer was going to give me $3,000.00 trade in for my Viking 2206ST.  I sold it in about 2 weeks for $5,200.00.  So I have to go along with OldGoat on this one.

I agree with the above that selling the unit by yourself brings in the best return on your investment. However, you need to look at the sales tax situation. It is my understanding that most states charge sales tax on the difference of the value of the trade and the sales price.  If this is insignificant, you are better off selling the unit your self and paying the full sales tax on the vehicle.

And, as stated above, you can negotiate a better deal if to tell them that you do not have a trade to get their best price. You should shoot for 30 % off of list but if you end up with 25 % you are doing well.

When we were looking to move up we had to decide whether to trade in or sell.  Most of the dealers were only going to give us $1200 less than private party sales.  We listed it on RV buys.com and sold it right away (lots of calls on it).  Our experience with a private party sale was very good, recomment it if your PU is in good shape it should sell quick.

We shopped like crazy, looked at just about every trailer on the market.  Settled on the Niagara...works great with the family, has all the available options (just working out some bugs, but the 1 year end to end warranty is taking care of that).

We also found that the sales guys can be pushy and sometimes don't want to bargain....BE FIRM and push them into the sale that you want, they seem to come around when your serious.
