Connecting Fleetwood drain to sewer

One of the things I liked about my new Fleetwood Colonial was the 1 1/2 inch drain for the sink.  I thought I could just buy an adapter to hook up a regular sewer line but so far I can't find anything other than a kluged setup I figured out at the hardware store.  When I went to the local dealer he handed me and adapter that stepped it down to a garden hose - not what I was looking for.

I have trouble believing that they put this lovely large drain opening on the trailer so it can be stepped down (and slowed down) to less than half its diameter.  Any ideas on this?

I have sump pump hose and pvc fitting to make my shower line to the backside of my PU. The fittings on the trailer are standard inch and a half (1.5 inch). You can drill a hole in the lid of a grey water tote and glue an fitting into the lid to keep the hose 1.5 inches all the way to the drain. I do use the 1 1/2 inch adapter to garden hose size to hook up to a sewer site, on the rare occasion we have one. I use the sewer adapter they sell here at PUT to have a stink free connection.:)

I have the garden hose adapter to allow hooking into a sewer hook up as well from the old westlake.  I just had problems with slow draining since on the westlake the entire drain line was the size of a garden hose.  I made a vent and that helped it to run better but I seem to recall the consensus was that the only way to get a smooth running drain line was going to be by running a larger line all the way to the gray water tank or sewer hook up.

I haven't had the opportunity to see how the drain runs on the colonial when hooked up to a garden hose but it just seems that stepping the line down is going to cause the flow to slow way down.

The garden hose I use is only a foot long.  That way the drain is only stepped down for the last foot.  I don't have any problem with this method.  The vent I built helped more than the sump pump hose.  Give it a try and see how it works.  If you still have problems then drill a hole in the cap of your grey water tote to glue a 1.5 inch fitting (a fitting with a flair at the bottom to seal against the inside of the cap)  into the cap so you can run sump pump hose the whole way.:)

Actually - I went through the manual again last night and found a line that I had not seen before.  It seems that there IS a hose that Fleetwood sells so we indeed do not have to make our own kludged connections (the vent set up for the old Westlake I left with it figuring the new owners would need it more than I).

I have e-mailed Fleetwood trying to get the part number and if successful I will let you all know.

Please let me know about that part.  What do the ends of the hose look like?  I am assuming that the one end is a female threaded 1.5 inch piece.  :)

OK - after two e-mails to Fleetwood citing chapter and verse of the owners manual here is what they said:

Hello again  Allen!  The part number for this kit is 4758-5591.  I am
showing it has a 10' hose and will attach directly to the sink drain on the
body panel.  I must apologize to you that I was not aware of this accessory
package.

So a part number does exist.  Now to try and order it and see if there really is a part to back up the part number :D

If your dealer has a price, please let me know.:)

I will call my dealer tomorrow, if I remember.:eyecrazy:

I called my dealer today.  The part list for about $50.  They were not familiar with the part and were going to contact Fleetwood to find out what is in it.  :)

Well, with having to quote their manual back at Fleetwood to get them to figure out it exists your experience with your dealer doesn't surprise me.  I will be checking with mine tomorrow.

OK, my dealer says they were told that the kit has everything you need to connect from the side of the camper to a blue tote. It has the camper fitting on one end and the fitting for the blue totes on the other end.:)

I wonder what the diameter of the hose is???:eyecrazy:

You know, for $50 we could probably come up with one heck of a hose on our own and save enough for a nights camping to boot.

This may be a few days late, but hope it might help.  I just set up a grey water collection system for a few dollars.  I bought a 1.5 inch white plastic P trap kit from Home Depot.  Use the section that goes from the trap to the wall to connect to the camper.  I also bought a 2' section of the larger Home Depot reinforced pool filter hose.  It has a 1.5 inch inside diamter.  Slip the hose over the P trap extension connected to the camper, it's a tight fit and should seal just fine.  Place the other end into a 7 gallon blue water container obtainable in the camping department at Wal Mart.  Works for me.

Welcome to PUT.

Thanks for the information, do you have any other mods to share with the rest of us?  I also have a home made system to tie my 2 drains together.  Similar to what you did only I used sump pump hose for the 1.5 inch tubing.:)

I take it you're responding to my post.  I've been enjoying the site, not posting much yet but learning a lot.

We've had our camper a year and made some changes along the way, but nothing that would really be new.  I've put a 6" PVC pipe along the front of the camper to hold our porch carpet, I've put 55 watt fog lights on the back bumper for those late night set ups, I replaced the Vanity Mate Mirror with real glass, I've added a 110v outlet that can be connected to the power pole with it's own extension cord, I've replaced the converter power cord with a short version and put a matching twist-on connecter on the end of the 25' cord, allowing me to store it in my hose/powercords/tools rubbermaid container.  Gives me a lot more room in the dinette storage area.  All of these are "stolen" ideas and can be found elsewhere on the web.  Bought a porta pottie, not a mod, but it helps.  Let me know if you want me to describe any of them, be more than happy to.  Let me know before tomorrow AM, and I'll take photos of anything you want to see.

Some others I might be considering...Something to tie the screen door open, particularly during setup.  Adding a household AC working through one of the side windows.  Would require a platform and an opening in the window.  I saw someone's website who had added zippers to their window to accomodate an AC.  Haven't been able to find it since.  Adding a vent, possibly power vent, to the ceiling.  Dealer advises not to, as it'll leak, ruining camper.  I think it would be nice to be able to vent hot air without opening windows.  One of the Max Air covers might help keep snowmelt leakage out during winter storage.  We might want to work more toward dry camping set up, maybe adding solar recharging, some kind of shower set up, hot water capabilities, etc.  The more I list here, though, the more minutes of setup time ticks off in my head.  Don't know if I really want to do all this setup.  Time will tell.

We live in the Corning, NY area.  Where in central PA are you located?  I was born in Latrobe, PA.  GO STEELERS, PIRATES AND PENGUINS!  (Pirates need all the help they can get.)  Oldest daughter now lives and works in Pittsburgh.

We're leaving tomorrow AM for a 7 day camping trip to Toronto, so won't be online for a bit after tomorrow.  At the conclusion of our Toronto trip, we'll have 30 pop up nights in the last year.  Been to Hershey PA 2 times, Watkins Glen NY, Pohick Bay VA, NYC, Darien Lake NY and Toronto.

I guess this works as an introductory post also.
