Adding a ceiling light

Hello all-

I would like to add a surface mount ceiling light to our 2004 Fleetwood Yuma.  This light would go over the sink/stove area to brighten thing up a bit.  We also have the Fleetwood Vanity Mate hanging in that area, and we could use a bit more light in the morning for when we use the mirror (that we've already replaced with a real glass mirror).

My question would center around wiring the new light.  I would think we could tap into the wiring going to the existing ceiling light in the center of the camper which is only a few feet away, but seems to me we'd have to take down a ceiling panel or 2 in order to do a "professional" installation.  How does one take down a ceiling panel in such a manner that it can be reinstalled without it looking like it had been removed?  I think I could handle the new wiring easily enough (I've done considerable house wiring) once I have the necessary panels down.

Thanks for any assistance.

Well, you can't. The ceiling "panels" are bonded to the styrefoam core. Surface mount wiring is the way to go.

Myself I use a Thinline Fluorescent fixture with a coiled cord I plug into one of the ceiling fixtures. I also put up velcro patches around the trailer so I can move the light around to where it's needed. Besides the fluorescent fixture uses 1/2 the amps of a standard ceiling fixture and output twice the light.

I'm not usually a "you can't" person.  So, the ceiling panels are really thick, with one finished surface.  Someone put them in, someone else should be able to get them back out, and get them back in again.

At any rate, surface wiring would/could work, and would probably be easier.  Do you know of any really small wire mold that could be used?  Do you have a brand/model number for the flourescent that you use?

hit up homedepot.com/lowes.com and do a search for "raceway"

they have some low profile self stick wire raceways that will suit your needs perfectly.  I think it's about 8 bucks for a 5' piece.
