I purchased nice foam mattress toppers and they were such an improvement over just the camper mattresses. The problem is the top is sooo much harder to  latch when breaking down camp. It just doesn't make sense that the foam should take up that much more space. I would think it would crush flat when the top is put down. I ended up taking them back off (and not sleeping as well) Anyone else have this problem?

Where did you get these mattress tops? They sound like they are pretty thick   Since we have a TT, the thickness of them wouldn't be a problem.

The foam toppers fit on some beds with the tops down but not on others.  I'm one of the fortunate that ours do easily fit with the top down. Ours closes fine with the 1 1/2 inche thick mattress pad plus electric heating mattress covers, sheets, comforter, and plastic mattress cover on top to keep the water off!  For us, these memory foam pads make SUCH a difference that I'd just roll them up and store them under the table or something in between trips if they didn't fit. No way could I give up the comfort difference!

We bought ours from Overstock.com. The 1.75" thick topper was $59 at the time, and the cost was same for all sizes, from twin to California king. I bought the Cal. king, thinking I could trim it if necessary, but it fit the king bunk ends of our PUP perfectly. I have no problem latching the roof, but I don't leave the sleeping bags or pillows on the bed... I stow them in the dinette seats. I definitely get a much better nights sleep with the topper.

Thanks, I don't think they make any RV mattresses with people's backs in mind.  Unless you spend the big $$ on a big Fifth Wheel or MH.

I guess it varies but we bought 1.5 inch memoryfoam toppers. We typically keep our sleepingbags unzipped flat on the bed. We found that the top goes down great with the topper if we put the sleepingbags on the floor. Not a biggie since we have the space available.

We bought a 3" foam topper for our home bed, and it may have made the bed a little more comfortable. However, I am hot natured, and I seem to be a little warmer. On the other hand, Holly also put a new comforter on the bed at the same time, so maybe THAT'S why I'm warmer.

I have thought about getting a topper for the camper, but our camper is hard to put down as it is, so we would have to find a place to store it. Haven't done it yet.
