My wife and I want to move up from a tent, which we loved, except for taking it down in the rain, flooded site, deflated air mattress acquainting us with
tree roots, etc. I'd like something small, 1000 lbs. or less, don't need amenities.
Just a bed and small sitting area, with or without galley.
Thanks.

My parents ride a Gold Wing motor cycle and have a "Quick Camp" trailer that they pull with the bike. It has a good sized bed that folds out, and a changing area at the foot. They also have what's called an "add a roo" that gives you about a 10x10 room with no floor. The add a room has covers for the windows, or you can open them up to use like a screen room. Very easy to set up and take down, and even has cargo area under the bed to store belongings. Try searching under motor cycle camper trailers, there are lots of different companies out there like this.

Fleetwood makes a "Half" popup that you may be interested in.  It doesn't have a galley, but has a sofa and one bed.  It only opens on one side.  It is called the "Neon".  http://www.fleetwoodrv.com/brandtomodel/models.aspx?brand=element

Keep an eye open for anything with the description of an 8' box.  That's one of the smaller, more basic models (and what we started out in until the kids outgrew it).  I'd think twice about the single bunk models for a few reasons:  1) Storage space is always at a premium in a pop-up, especially a small one, and that extra bunk would make a good place for storing your clothing, etc. so you're not running out to your vehicle when you need clothes; 2) you may want to take along a grandchild, friend, etc. sometime and you'll have that option; 3) resale will be much easier with having two bunks (a single bunk is kind of an oddity).

Keep an eye on the classified boards here on PUT and check your local RV Trader now that summer is over.  People are looking to trade up in the off season and it's a good time to find one.   Good luck!

There's always the lighter version of the Aliner, called the Scout...here's a link.    http://www.aliner.com/page20.html

My husband and I just upgraded for the same reasons that you stated. We actually had a friend give us a Coleman Aspen (1985) that has the one bed and a fold-down dinette (for our 5 year old). Our main goal was to get off the ground, and this did the trick. Although they are no longer made, I did see one on e-bay a few weeks ago (it was actually the Coleman Colorado, but they are exactly the same). You can also follow the advice of another poster and go with the Fleetwood Neon. It is pretty much identical to what we have, just more modern.

Thank you all.

Not yet, but we're leaning toward a motorcycle trailer.
Can't decide whether to lug the $40 screen house or spring
for one of the "add-a-rooms".

Jayco makes a small model thats a bit more in weight 1300 # but like someone else posted the extra bunk will come in handy for storage or if you want to take along friends. Its the Jayco Jay Series 806 model. Its there smallest model. What kind of car or truck do you have to pull a PU. This is the model an older couple down the street from me have and they pull it with their Saturn. Here is Jaycos web site

Bill - Starcraft is offering a small bare bones popup with nothing but two bunks and some storage cabinets - no galley, no stove, no propane tank.
Your talking 1100 lbs. It's their 1700 model.

We owned a Starcraft "Meteor"that was a one-sided popup. It had a sink and fridge and also a dinette. It was perfect for the first time popup experience and we loved it and only sold it to move up to the hybrid "darkside". Seems to me the weight was about 1000lbs. We were able to tow with a 4 cyl . truck be we stayed aaway from hauling up any big mountains.Could luck with your search.

or a Chalet trailer...

Both very small, light weight, no canvas, all the amenities!

Hi, Bill:
My wife and I just bought a Fleetwood Taos and it's terrific.
It's not listed in the Fleetwood website, but was offered in 2005 and may still be available at other dealerships.
It has a stove, sink, furnace and would sleep five or six (four easily, more if they're really friendly). Probably the most basic of the Fleetwood models.

We find we use the unused bunk space for assembling cooking stuff and for storing clothes during our outings.
