Hi Everyone,

I have a question about water heaters. Can I use the water heater if there is no water hook-up at the camp site, from the water in my 23 gal. water tank, and if so How? We're new to this and any help would be appreciated.
Thanks........ Grizzly

Yes you can.  Fill your freshwater holding tank and then turn your electric water pump on and the pump will fill the water heater.  It will take a while, and you will have to open the hot water faucet to allow the air that was in the water heater to escape.  After the tank is full you can light the water heater.  If you have an outside shower you can fill the hot water heater when you are filling your fresh water holding tank.  Hook the hose to the city water connection, open the hot water side of your outside shower and turn the hose on.  The water pressure will fill the water heater, the air will escape out the outside shower.  MAKE SURE YOUR INSIDE FAUCET IS CLOSED!!!:)

Keep in mind that water heater holds 6 gallons of water, so after you bleed the air out and water into the water heater tank, add six more gallons of water to your fresh tank before moving away from the water spigot...

That is why I fill my water heater with the city water inlet.  With a PU it is a problem to have to fill the water pump on to fill the water heater.:)

You could also open the T&P Check valve to allow the air to escape.
