Quote from: Dee4jyep..that's the place I was thinking off we used to spend a week at a time down there.  several times a year. It was my mom's favorite place to go..

never camped at Leo Carrillo...didn't know they had camping there...
Dee,

You obviously have a very special Mom with very good taste :D . It seems like it rubbed off on her daughter. That's always a good thing. ;)

Leo Carrillo is a little harder to get in to. It's on the other side of the highway from the beach (about 5 miles south of Mugu). It's a little farther back off of the road in a very pretty canyon (little if any road noise). There is a tunnel that goes under the highway to the beach (about a 5 minute walk). Lots of fun places to explore and some beautiful trails along the cliffs, overlooking the beach. You can almost always see dolphin from there and in migration season whales are prevalent. The bird life there is abundant also.

There is a creek (dry most times) that runs through the camp. It's heavily wooded and loads of fun to explore. We have found rocks with fossils on some occasions. The campsites are pretty nicely spread out. If there were electric hook-ups in that place, you would never be able to get in.

There's an amphitheater up in the canyon and they have performances in the summer. Leo Carrillo is a definite "must-do" for a weekend.

Brian, Dee, Lori and anybody else who's been chiming in about our disappearing at Pismo...............

Paul and I can vouch for the very nice showers at Leo Carrillo -- private shower rooms, not just a row of stalls.  Very nice indeed.;)

Well, if it's too cold to camp, I'm thinking of a little jaunt to Oakhurst, staying in a Best Western (only $58/night!!!) over MLK weekend.  Gotta see Yosemite in the winter!  Anyone else interested?  There are plenty of rooms left, and they even allow dogs, so Brandy can go!  :D

I'd love to see Yosemite in the winter. I'll bet that would be a sight to behold. However, I'm from Minnesota :frosty:  and I'm allergic to the cold :( .

The thing that I dearly love about California :S  is being able to see the snow capped mountains in the winter from my front door while standing in 70 degree weather  :D . (actually today is supposed to be 85)

Take lots of pictures and share with us :p .

What I like best is that you can get the whole family in one shower stall and only spend $.50 on a shower-for-all. :yikes:

hehehehehe :D
