Has anyone attended this show in the past? It looks interesting. As a newbe, I've been encouraged to attend one of these, and this is the first one I've found in the Phoenix area. Looks massive to me...

Link: 23rd Annual Quartzsite, AZ, Sports, RV, and Vacation Show January 21-29.

It's about 1 1/2 hours west of Phoenix. Not too bad of a day trip there and back. I'm worried the PU's will be a small part of this overall "show", but at least it's free to get in!

I think there is a show in Peoria going on right now but it looks to be RV focused and costs $5 to get in.

Thoughts anyone?

(still searching for a PU!)

we are thinking about going too,

Quartziite shows are mainly geared for larger RV's. I am not sure you will find too much on PU. It is a huge place for snowbirds to gather and boondock out in the desert. All campgrounds are booked months or a year in advance. The town itself is small and most vendors are set up in tents and is the largest swap meet you will ever attend so be prepared for large crowds and walking. They also have huge Barbeque tents. Hope this helps.

We went to the Peoria show today. Kids less than 18 are free, and the paper had "get in free" coupons for my DW and I.

Mostly Big RVs. Jayco, Fleetwood, and Starcraft dealers were there and had a total of maybe 25 PU's. We didn't look at the Fleetwoods. Kinda disappointing. I'll bet the Quartsite one will be the same. I want to see the Viking's but that dealer closes earlier on the weekends.

Have to agree with maromeo. Wouldn't waste your time going to quartziite if your wanting to look at pu's. Mostly LARGE Rv's. My father transports units there for a dealer in Phoenix every year. If you make it to the Viking dealer in Phoenix the owners name is Dave. We are very happy with the service we received from him and if you go inside his building where the offices are you will see LOTS of others who have sent pictures and letters who are also happy customers. Good Luck with whatever you decide.

Thanks! Guess I'll go to the Viking dealer that day then.

We have been happy with Antler's RV and our PU. They gave us an excellent deal, great customer service and have been wonderful with answering any questions or issues we had. I wish more businesses today ran like theirs. They are a great attribute to the RV world.

We purchased our unit at an RV show in 2002 after viewing all the other PU's there.  We chose our unit because it was the one we felt would suit our needs and the way we were treated as customers by the owners. Viking included more features in their units than some of the others at the time. For us it was just the right fit. Hope this helps. Enjoy your search.

Thanks Mary!!! We'll definitely check out Antler's.

What RV show did you purchase your PU at? A local show? Just curious. Since I'm not going to the Quartsite one, I'm looking for the next. I heard their is a "big one" in february here locally. Need to find more details.

We attended the Sportsman Outdoor Show in May 2002.  I have noticed there is not as many RV and Outdoor Shows over the past few years, probably costs, gas prices etc.

You may want to contact Antlers and see if and when they will be at the show. I did see there is a show Februrary 23-26 at the Civic Center. Keep your eyes open for discount tickets, most likely Circle K or 7-11.
Hope this helps.

THAT's the one - the show at the Civic Center. Definitely plan to go to that, and maybe can hit Antler's this weekend. Thanks!

Hello Rawhide,

Welcome to the forum.

I saw a few of your posts over on the Popup Explorer site and have posted some replies there. - check my reply to your post in the Welcome thread.

Good luck in your search for a popup.

We attended the Sportsman's RV show at the Phx. Civic Center last year.  Mostly big motorhomes, 5'ers and TT's but a few popups were there.  Convenient to compare side by side and to pick up some literature.

Last year only Starcraft and Fleetwood PUPs were being shown. The Jayco dealer was not there.

I think the show is "OK" to attend being that you are shopping, we probably would not go again.  Look for discount coupons in the paper.

For a used pop-up, check dealers, look in the classifieds, RV Trader, etc.  The Jayco dealer in Mesa (Kempton's) usually has some used units, as does Little Dealer.  We ended up buying a new one last summer.

Went to Antler's RV today.... They only had about five new PU's on the lot, and NO used ones. The five they had did not have the slide-out option that I like so much. When I asked the gentleman if they were going to get any in, he said no! The five on the lot were at $500 above factory and he expected them to move fast and that was it - no more PU's! Moving more to the "light-weight" hard-side models.

I am very disappointed. I like the Viking, but don't know that I'd even buy a used one now. He did insinuate that "they (the PU's) had some problems" but then said that the factory had provided great support to him. I told him i'd heard great things about the Viking model and Antler's specifically.

TheViking

Sorry to hear that.  I know our friends with a newer Viking had something recalled with the lift system I believe. Alot of our friends are getting out of the popups and getting hybrids. Maybe another option for you?

Thanks Kristi.

Hybrid - another term I need to research!

We have a six foot high fence - whatever we buy must be lower than that due to HOA reg's. If a hybrid is one of those hard-side with pop-out beds, they sit too high. I think this is what the Viking dealer meant when he indicated "light weight's."

I like the idea of a PU anyway - cheaper, lighter, and would meet our needs for the next 5-10 years easily.
