We will be going there in April. Which sites are the nicest? Are they safe for kids(no cliffs next to them), secluded, large, flat, close to showers? any help/info. would be appreciated.   Tom C.

One of the others here had been there several times and has posted some photos.  You can find them at http://community.webshots.com/user/vjm1639.  These are not my photos or website.  I don't remember the handle of this other person, but want to give credit where credit is due.  They have photos of many of the sites.  We stayed ourselves in site number 23 or 25 or so, on the outside of the loop.  I think the inside sites around that loop would be a bit more level than the outside sites.  Check out the map at http://www.nvrpa.org/images/main_campground.jpg.  I don't remember any cliffs, but the area has rolling slopes.  The back of our site fell off, some of the paths going down to the bay were somewhat steep.  The sites themselves were well spaced, nicely wooded and handy to the two shower buildings in the campground.  The campground was by no means crowded when we were there, only about 25 percent were filled.  We're looking forward to returning.  I think it was one of our best camping experiences last year.   Accessability to Washington was easy, once we figured out how to get to the Metro station without getting on I95.

It's my site with the pics...and I've been there several times...we're only about half an hour from Pohick now...use to live even closer.     There are a couple of sites that have a pretty good drop off behind them...can't remember what they are now,  however, you can see some site numbers on my page and none of the ones there are the drop off ones.   For small kids any of the inside circle sites would be good. They surround the play field for easy access.   If your kids aren't "too" young, it's a great park for bike ridining too.  :>  71 is a good flat, large site, but not very secluded.  35, 36, 37, and 38 are probably the largest of the more secluded sites.   If there is anything else we can help with please let me know!  :>

We stayed there last summer. We stayed at campsite 24. Large and flat and backed onto the play field. We have 3 kids and never once felt like they were in any danger. Plenty of shade.

Bathrooms are old, but clean. Each bathroom block has a laundry room.

I'd stay at this place again. Easy drive to the metro for the journey into Washington, DC.

The place was empty, less than 10% full.
