Quote from: PITPOP27OK Yea, that would stink to get stuck in Yosemite!  I'll see what me hubby wants, he loves coffee too.  He loves camping.  He'll probably want to just plug in the coffe maker who knows.

and ps REAL women do not blow dry their hair while camping (says the lady with perfectly straight hair  :D )
NAAA!! You wouldn't be "Stuck". Anyone would be happy to give you a jump start if the "unthinkable :p " happened.  :D

I have one of these coffee makers and it makes incredible coffee.  It's great for making hot water too.  I highly recommend it!  It's a regular 12 cup drip maker.  We use the Maxwell House filter packets...real good.

Haven't used it in our new PU yet but all you need is a gas stove.

So you can use it on your stove in your PU?  The three burner grill...I'm trying to see how it works.  If that were the case that's running off propane right? (I know I know sooooooo NEWBIEN!!)

Yes, I would use it on my 3 burner stove using only propane.  The coffee maker sits up about 3-4 inches above the flame (a design of the maker's base).  The heat somehow creates the pumping action needed for the water...then it makes coffee no different than the electric drip maker at home.

I noticed, on the Walmart link that I posted, it was only available "Online". I just ordered one (a gift for my brother). It was only $44.24 with S&H.

My brother always gets up at 5:AM and starts that %#@^ generator, just so that he can brew his coffee. You can't hear the generator. It's a quiet Honda but he has to get dressed, go outside and get it out of the TV, hook it up and put the silencer cover on it. ALL for a cup of coffee.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy my coffee but I just turn on the inverter, plug in the pot and go back to bed for that last snuggle :D .

One small tip...after the coffee is done, turn the flame down to low to keep the carafe/coffee hot.  If you leave the flame on high, it's not good for the unit...it gets way too hot.  High flame when brewing, low flame to keep hot.  To make hot water for tea or hot chocolate, leave the basket in place but empty.

If you have a Coleman outlet store near you, you might find it at a discount.  They have been out for a couple of years now.:)

Wow.

I have a coffee routine that I've always been embarrassed to talk about because it is so much work. Now I can finally go public because I've found someone worse than me!

I have a pot to heat the water, and another pot just like it. In the second pot I place a funnel. In the funnel I put a coffee filter with the (measured) coffee grounds. When the water begins to boil in pot #1, I start to pour it into the funnel. What comes through into pot #2 is perfect coffee. It takes a while, but I've gotten used to it. I've been making my camping coffee this way for about 40 years! That Coleman coffeemaker might just change my camping life!

I like my coffee press.  Grounds in the carafe, pour in boiling water, wait four minutes, press the plunger and voila! coffee.

Or I use my old standby, the 8 cup camp perc.  (Which is primed and assembled the night before, so that we just turn on the heat.)

Gotta have the joe to get the day goin'.  :morning:

I second the French Press for making coffee in the morning.
Just boil the water in the stove, then pour the boiling water into the french press with the coffee grounds and let sit for 4 minutes, press the plunger, and you have hot coffee.

French press

We have one similar to this one, and wouldn't be without it,
and it stays in the camper, no need to bring the coffee maker from home camping.

I am glad I don't like coffee, I don't have to go through any aggravation in the morning.:)

I'm going to have to get one of these.  I occasionally use a french press at home, but usually it's a vaccuum pot.  An automatic drip is fine, but for me, a percolator just ends up with coffee that's virtually un-drinkable.

Well Hubby went a looking, Walmart did have it in stock -  he liked the Coleman maker, but he found down the row a bit a Coleman Perculator for $19, that he wanted instead.  He makes a good perc cup of Joe, so we went with that.  He's been using the last couple days to get the right boldness going and it makes some STRONG coffee!  I recommend it!

Quote from: PITPOP27So we will probably be brewing in there...I'm wondering if I should just get a perc for my hubby to make on the lil portable propane grill we've got...you see, coffee would be on my necessity list for camping :D
A stove top percolator works just fine on propane...an enamel percolator costs about $5-6.   Although we have a 12V percolator bought prior to camping, I wouldn't use it running on batteries.  But we keep a pot of coffee around all day.

Quote from: fritz_monroeHow about getting a Coleman Camping Coffeemaker.  It's an automatic drip coffeemaker for on a camp stove.
Is that decanter glass?  That is the only concern I would have.  I would either need a spare decanter at all times or bring along my old style percolator incase the glass decanter broke at Murphy's favorite time.
