End Of The Telegram Stop

Samuel F. B. Morse, in 1851, sent the first message by electricity.  His message, sent round trip from Washington, DC to Baltimore, Maryland, was "WHAT HATH GOD WRAUGHT."  The message was suggested by a small child.

If he had only known.  Today, there is telephone, cell phone, email, text messaging, chat lines, video chat and video conferenceing, cell phones, cable, satellite, and more.

Western Union, a company that formed out of the mergers of many different telegram/telegraph companies to founded in 1851 and shortly afterwards, has announced that it stopped it's telegram service on Friday.  It was the last operating telegram service.
