Quote from: brainpauseI think I visited that one a couple of years ago, scouting it out for a possible rally. It seemed pretty nice and clean, but they weren't willing to work with us much as a group. I never have camped there; we just walked/drove through. They had a lot of available activities, it seemed.

I tried to get a site there about 3 yrs ago on a busy weekend, not sure about all sites but the one they offered me was nothing but a gravel pull thru and no room on the sides, wouldn't have been able to put awning up....ton's of people making tons of noise that weekend...we went to another campground,  keep in mind we love state parks and the room the sites have most of the time. Not a big fan of commerical campgrounds.

Can you recomend any state parks in the area?  We were originally planning on staying in the National Park, but all of the campsites there are primitive.

I stayed at the National Park Campground close to the Cave Entrance,,,it a large campground, Just no hookups as you said.   I live in Nashville so I may not by 100% accurate but I don't know of any state parks close to Mammoth Cave..

You may want to consider staying in Bowling Green KY,,,it about 20-25 miles from Mammoth Cave and a great KOA is located there...there is a Interstate (I65) that runs from  Bowling Green to the Mammoth Cave Park...I think you will enjoy the Cave area,  I looked for something other than the National Park Campground but all the other commerical campgrounds in the area are old because of the tourist boom in the early years due to the cave...One campgound I remember as not being an option was Singing Hills...no room, maybe ok for a overnight stay to rest but not enjoyable...

Kentuck has some nice state parks but I don't know of any near Mammoth Cave.

Check out the parks, maybe you will find something near other interests in KY and drive to the Cave from there....here's a link for KY state parks.

A long time ago I was a member of a caving club at the University in Bowling Green and explored a lot of caves (over 180) in Warren County,, I think they have opened the Lost River Cave (Large cave under the city of Bowling Green) to the public,,,that's a great cave to explore...I've gotten too bald and fat to crawl around in caves, still enjoy on doing public tours of caves..

There is a lot of interesting History about the "cave wars" that occured in the area back when the tourist boom happen back in the early days,,,do a google search on Floyd Collins,,,there is book about him being trapped in a cave and it became a "circus" with media coverage and people coming from all over the the site...He's now "buried" in the cave he was trapped in..

Hope you come down and enjoy the area...

I have not camped there but you might check out Moutardier (corp of engineers) cg.  It's listed on the reserveamerica site as Moutardier, KY.  A couple of years ago TPUC camped there while touring Mammoth Caves.  It's located on Lake Nolin.  I'm a big fan of COE cg's so this may be worth checking out.

Jan, thanks for bringing this cg up. I had completely forgotten about it.

To the original poster, the Williams Family, this may be your solution. It is a nice COE cg with hookups and decent bathrooms, as I recall. Although we didn't camp there, we did drive through twice, and even stayed the afternoon with a large group of TPUC'ers (tpuc.com). Just go to reserveamerica.com and type in Moutardier, KY.

There is a closer KOA (I think the next exit) but the sites aren't very level. Don't forget Kentucky Down Under which is nearby and the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green. There is also the Camping World store in Bowling Green.
