How about a screen room?

I know that many of you use and enjoy your AAR, but do any of you use a screen room, canopy or any other "seperate" tent-like structure instead as extra space when camping?

When I have looked at the cost of an AAR it looks as if I would spend several hundred and the cost of a screen room seems cheaper.

What do you think?

I sometimes setup a large 3-pole dome shaped open Sunshade, if that counts.  However, it just protects from the sun.

If we need to escape bees or mosquitos, it's back into the AAR.

We have a screen house we got from REI back from when we were tenters. We used it alot then. Since we got the PUP, we haven't felt a need but we're planning on using it much more this year. We've always really liked it as an extra outdoor space to avoid bugs, rain, etc.

Ya might check out REI.com and search under REI screen house.

I have an AAR and a Paha Que screen room.  I use both or either one depending on where we are camping and what the conditions are like.  I don't think you could get a better quality screen room than the Paha Que.:)

I like to set up a screenroom a little distance from the camper so adults can have a somewhat private area for late night conversation  ;) once the kids are inside the camper. It also provides the same for my teenage daughter and her friends, still keeping them within sight  :yikes: . It is also a lot easier to set up than an AAR.

We use our AAR for every trip and for a majority of our trips we put up a six-sided screen room over the picnic table. The kids like to go play their board games in the screen room in the evening.

Oh man; all this talk about sreen rooms and playing board games in them in the evening ..... BRING ON SPRING!!!

We have an AAR and a Coleman 6 sided screen room and most of the time we use both of them. I have modified my AAR so that it is basically water tight and it just provides great extra space when you have three children. The screen room is where we eat most of the time as it is always set up over a picnic bench. It's a blessing in the summer in the south when bugs are EVERYWHERE!

I also find that the AAR acts as a buffer in the summertime in preventing bugs in the camper everytime the door is opened.

However when we camp on Thanksgiving we don't set up either - no bugs at that time!

Has your AAR been installed on the trailer?  There is hardware that has to be installed before you can install the AAR.:)

It came with the add a room....the awning is already up and it looks as if it's been used a couple times over....

The AAR stays in the garage. We used it a couple of times when we initially started camping but found it a little awkward to put up and take down. We use the awning.

We bought a screen room that we place over the picnic table which is great protected space for the family to eat in, play games or escape a few rain showers.  We waited until early fall when everything seems to go on clearance to buy the screen room.

You might want to make sure that the AAR has been installed before you go. The awning could have been used many times without the AAR being set up.  Many people use awnings, but not an AAR.  Here are a few things you can look at to check if the AAR has been installed.  Is there Velstick (hard plastic velcro) in the wheel well on the curb side of the PU, is there velcro and a snap or two on the hard metal end of the awning (the piece where the legs of the awning fold up into)?:)

There are....it's ready to go!
