Springtime is almost here and it is nature's way of saying, "It's time to start Camping"......

Maybe in North Carolina, but here in Minnesota it's still cold enough to drive on the lakes.

IMHO ~ it's never cold enough to drive on the lakes!   :p

c'mon, AB ~ it was in the 30*'s this week ~ that's warm enough for a spring jacket!  And you can make ressies at the state parks for Memorial Day weekend now ... spring must be coming!  :D

Austin, You should think about moving further south so you can enjoy a longer camping season....

We have already had our first camping trip of the season, here in PA.  Why wait?:)

Now there is an idea:  Instead of a campout AT the lake, how about one ON the lake??? :)

Those Minnesotans drive their Mh's,pickup trucks pu;;ing trailers loaded with snowmobiles out on the lakes. They have fishing huts with beds, stoves, fridges and oh yes, don't forget the fishing hole in the floor. :) So,c'mon Austin, get that pu out there. Did you see several years ago when some of them made national news? Everyone parked together instead of spacing out and the ice broke. It showed a pickup going under water with the wipers still working. :)

Hey!  Be nice.   :p

I'll have you know that I have never willingly been in a vehicle out on the ice ~ scares the living daylights out of me.

I remember that, Old Yeller ~ IIRC, it had more to do with a 'warm' winter and thin ice than it did with how they parked the trucks ... mostly vendors' rigs, I think.  Very heavy trucks + thin ice = DISASTER!  Wish I could find the pic!

As for the beer drinking ... I'm sure they drink more of it in Wisconsin  ;)

Every year, someone drives through the ice.  Sometimes, 3-4 do because the season starts too late, or ends too soon, and the ice isn't safe.  IIRC, there's one lake that's swallowed six vehicles so far this winter.

Understand, at heart I am a New Englander.  I many do some stupid New England things, but I don't want to start adding stupid Minnesotan things as well.  I'd be the first 'Minnesotan' to loose his pop-up to thin ice.  :yikes:

At least it wouldn't harm my state map. ;)

Yeah, we're in lake country here too. This year - no ice to speak of on the lakes. If someone got their vehicle into the water this year, they did it on purpose!

Not the one I was thinking of, but still a good reminder of what not to do!

Hey Bill ...!

Some of us are talking about a camping/fishing get together, maybe the weekend of March 17/18/19, at the Arrowhead C/G, Uwharrie Nat'l Forest, just a tad north of Troy, NC.

Now, I very well remember our last camping episode there at Jordan Lake, where I got to enjoy all those great meals over at your Popup! This time we are real serious about trying to catch some fish so we can all enjoy a big fish fry!

Whada ya think?
