Bike Rack for family of 5??

Hi again!

You all gave me such good advice about buying my new pop up, now I have another question.

We have 3 kids, and we all would like to have bikes at the campgrounds.  Most bike carriers have a capacity for 4...  I did see one from sixnall that holds 6 bikes but it's $460 !  

Are there any other cheaper solutions?

We are also a family of 5 and love to take our bikes with us whereever we go. I have the 2 adult bikes on top of the PUP using the Yakima bike rails. The 3 kids bikes hang off the back of the minivan on one of those strap on contaptions. Seems to work for us and we haven't lost a bike yet

Can you put any of the kids bikes in the PU or the TV?

It depends - is your TV a pickup truck?  If so, there is this option:

Realistically, we had Yakima racks on our last popup.  I put 2 bike racks on there, and a large basket.  We carried the adult bikes in the racks, and 2 kid bikes and a baby trailer laying down in the basket.

Okay, you cracked me up!!  Too bad I don't have a Pick up truck!!  

We're looking into several options, and my DH keeps assuring me that he'll think of something!

I had the same problem, having a hard time paying $400-$600 for a bike rack.  My camper has t-slots in the roof and it was very easy for me to fabricate my own bike rack using uni-strut, 1/2" galvanized pipe, 2" aluminum channel, and a bunch of nuts and bolts from my local home center.  It turns out that the rack I made is much stronger then what I could purchase.  Total cost for my bike rack was around $100.  If you don't have the t-slots in the roof, I would not recommend drilling holes, since this could cause leaks and other issues.

Some one else posted this link awhile back, not sure who it was though, you might be able to modify this design so it will work for you.
