My camper is home and in the garage!

After a long week and an even longer day, we now have the camper home with us.  My stepdad brought it over as promised and gave DH lessons on backing up.  They were able to successfully back the trailer up into the garage without killing my truck!  They even did it twice.  My stepdad had the brilliant suggestion of putting down boards where the road meets the driveway to keep us from bottoming out.  That worked perfectly!  That was just enough to get us on to the driveway without the bumper touching it even once.

After he left, I reminded DH that I needed it pulled back out of the garage so we could set it up and give it a good cleaning.  It's amazing how much easier it is to set up the camper in 60 degree sunny weather compared to the 34 degree overcast weather we had last weekend.

I scrubbed the outside vinyl and it now looks nice and white again!  I also got DH to get our camping boxes out of the attic so I could pack the camper with our gear.  All we need now are linens for the king size bed and a free weekend to go camping!

It was so nice to buy the camper, but to not be able to set it up, clean it and personalize it was killing me.  It didn't really feel like ours until today.  Also, for the record, DH was able to back it up into the garage the first try after setting it up today!  Granted, he only had to back 15 feet straight into the garage, but it's a start!  Funny thing is, even with the camper in the garage (the length of the PUP is 18'8" and the garage from wall to door is 19'), we have more room in there than we've ever had before since we had to get rid of so much stuff to make room!

I was too busy trying to get everything done today that I didn't have time to take pictures.  I'll make sure and take plenty on the first trip!

I am glad the garage worked out for you. It is very nice to have the PU on hand.:)

Thanks for coming back and sharing that with us. I'm a little surprised that none of us thought about using makeshift ramps :eyecrazy: . That was a good idea and may help others in the future :D .

I'm sure glad that you are able to get it in the garage without a big hassle. I know that was a big concern. Here's to your step dad :!

We'll be taking it out the weekend of March 11.  We have reservations at a county park close to home.  Best part is, it's free to camp there (with hookups!) and it's within a mile of my dad's house and within 30 minutes of home.  I'll definitely take pics that weekend and will share when I get back.  Thanks everyone for all the help.  I've wanted a PU for years and this is definitely a dream come true.

Just curious about the best/most effective way to scrub the outside.  Some of the used ones I have been shopping are quite dirty and even appear to have a little mol on the outside.  Do you just use a soap/water and bristle brush?  Or is there some tips/tricks that the veterans here know about?

Thanks!

It depends on what the material is.:)

It's important not to use detergents are harsh chemicals. IMHO, a car wash soap, available at auto parts stores, Walmart and many other places are best. It's a good idea to put a coat of car wax on the PU, especially if you store it outdoors. It will help cut down on damage from UV rays, oxidation and corrosion.

I noticed your post was late February, so this may be a bit late. We also got a pop up recently. I was able to buy waterproof king size mattress pads and sheets on Amazon for really cheap.  Count in the free shipping and it worked out great.  We have to have the waterproof mattress pads since our little boy is not potty trained. I'm sure if you don't have that issue, any old kind will do if you aren't worried about moisture/water.  Enjoy!! We've been lucky enough to take ours out and it was awesome!  I told my DH that if we'd been in the tent, we'd have been home Saturday night.  :)

Oh yea, we have the garage issue as well. That tip on the board at the street is going to be very helpful.  We've already drug the bumper.  We have 1/2 inch clear on each side and 1" in the back. We feel your pain!  But, we are getting good at it now!

PS:  to the person who asked about what to clean with, the dealer told us that the tent part should only be scrubbed with a very soft brush and water. If you have to use soap, use a very mild soap (Dove) and rinse 3 times.
