hooking up grey water to....

the black water sewer line at full hook up sites, What's needed?  We haven't been in full hook ups yet and want to make sure we have everything we need.  Pictures would be awesome.  When we purchased the PU we got this:



but that's all, what else will we need?

It sorta depends on the fitting on your holding tank. You can get as fancy as you want but this is the typical set-up


You can buy the end fittings separately.

If you are just going to dump your tank at a dump station, you will only need the fitting to hook up to your holding tank. If you want to hook-up to a sewer line in a campsite, you will need a fitting on the discharge end also.

That's correct. Although it doesn't have to be an elbow. It can be a straight connection. However, the elbow is better because it takes stress off of the fitting.

The black gate valve on the right is to shut off the discharge so that you can fill the tank with water. After you fill it, you pull the handle on the gate valve and all the nasty stuff flows out. You can do it 3 or 4 times in about 10 minutes. Keeps your holding tank fresh & clean.

Does that hose connect to the side of your camper?  Then all you need is a foam donut.  If you use a garden hose then get this here at PUT.

The PU in question does not have a holding tank, so it isn't needed.

Fleetwood PUs (not the highlanders and not the older Fleetwood/Coleman trailers either) come with an adapter to connect the drain on the side of the PU to a garden hose.  The garden hose then connects to the sewer adapter and you put the grey foam donut in the opening of the sewer connection.  Hope this helps.

I preveously purchased the same grey water connector from PUT which I simply have not had a chance to use yet.  I have been thinking about this kind of hook up, PU grey water to campground sewer, and I am wondering if there is the possibility of sewer gases backing up into the PU.  My PU and probably most PU, except Fleetwood high wall models & maybe a few others, have no exaust pipe for gases to excape.  I would like to make this connection due to the fact that my PU has a shower.  So is it safe to hook a PU's grey water hose directly to the campground black water sewer?

We use a garden hose for our grey water and have never had any problems with odor. Depending on the opening we have 2 adapters and one is the donut. The only problem we've found is when the temp dropped to 18 and the water lines froze. But that's a different issue.

I have hooked up our drain line several times to the sewer hookup using a donut. I have never had problems with smell or sewer gases coming up. However, I do have my own homemade vent:

The main reason I made this mod is to keep the sink draining. I guess I get the added benefit of no sewer gases, because I don't have a loop in the drain hose (inside the camper), nor do I have a P-trap.

We used to have a 2001 Coleman Niagara, and the drain connection on the side of the trailer was an 1 1/2" screwed pipe. When we got the trailer, we got two drain adaptors, that reduced the size of the drain to 3/4", the size of a garden hose. We were able to then run this hose over to the sewer connection at the campground. We did not have a donut connection, so simply put a plastic bag of sand over the 3" sewer connection, and it stopped any smells coming up from the sewer, and held our garden hose in place. The internal drains on our sink and shower have P-traps so there were no sewer gases in the trailer.

PIPPOP27, the hose you have is no use for your popup. Same with the fittings Wavery is recommending. They are for Travel Tralers and RV's with holding tanks and a 3" drain outlet from the tanks.

If you don't already have a drain adaptor, that reduces the drain from your trailer from 1 1/2" to 3/4 " get one from your dealer or camping world, and then use an old garden hose. It should work fine.

Yes it is safe to drain directly into the cg sewer system.  Your hose is going to be on the ground lower than the either end of the hose.  There will be water remaining in the hose making a big "trap" to block any sewer gas from backing up into the camper.

All new Fleetwoods, (and every PU I have seen), have Ptraps in the galley and shower drains to prevent any sewer gas backflow.

The vents on the shower drains of all Fleetwood equipped with an inside shower, and the new 2006 Highlander galleys is an anti-syphon, or vacuum break, and not a sewer gas escape vent.
