Hello!

Well, it's back to reality after a wonderful week at John Pennekamp State Park in Key Largo.

This was our first time there and we were prepared for the small sites.  Ours wasn't too bad but the poor guy next to us, he couldn't even get his awning out all the way on his Class C motor home, with the glide out out, that is.

The bugs weren't too bad and we used lots of OFF spray plus Citronella candles around the site at night.  The raccoons were another story!  The first night there and DD was getting her scuba gear together on the rug under the awning.  I hear her say, "Mom.  MOM!!!" and there was Randy Raccoon right next to her.  I guess he wanted to help?  Another evening, DH almost had one in his lap, again while sitting under the awning.  They were loud at night, rummaging through the dumpster and if you left any food or trash out at your site, they were there enjoying it!

The bath houses were spotless and the people (rangers, park hosts etc.) were very friendly.

We definitely will go there again next year!

Oh yes, I need to brag about my 15 year old DD.  She got her scuba certification this trip and even did her check out dives in 8 foot seas.  Her instructor was flat on her back on the deck of the boat but DD did great.

Last time I was there (summer of 02) the racoons ripped the screen window of the PU next to mine and got inside - this was in the day time while they were out playing.

I'm booked for June 23-25 - the kayak clubs are having their annual multi-club picnic.  I'll be on site 27 if anyone is there and wants to stop in to say hi.

Isn't that place great? We were there in 2003 for a week. Both of our kids (11 at the time) finished their open water there as well. We would love to go back again, sigh, maybe in another year or so.
