Yesterday, DH was starting to get the new PUP ready for our maiden voyage on Memorial Day weekend.  We are all very excited to get out there and try it out!

Anyhow, he had a question that I told him I would pose to all of you very helpful and knowledgeable people here.  He noticed that the fan for the AC/DC converter runs continuously whenever there is a load on it.  This happens with both battery power and shore power.  Is this normal?

Being new to this PUP thing, we are learning as we go.  I have read these boards extensively and you are all so very helpful and I have learned a lot from you.  Thank you for all the help!

Mine does the same thing.  It seems to only run when there is 120V to 12v conversion going on though.  Running your fridge on 120V does not require the conversion so it does not need the fan.  There is heat built up when converting to 12V from 120V so the fan is needed to cool the inverter.

Your pup is probably charging the battery.  This will cause the converter to heat up and the fan will run.  The first time we used our pup, the fan ran continuously for about 6 hours.  After that, it ran occasionally, but not much.

I agree with FM, ours also runs when its charging the battery, then shuts down. I hope you have a really great time on your Maiden Voyage, make sure you take some pics and post them, there's nothing better than checking out fellow PU'rs pics.........Ed   :sombraro:

Thank you for your responses.  We thought it was normal, but we wanted to confirm.

I'll try to post some pics - I'm not all that techno savvy, but we'll see if I can figure it out!  I too love seeing everyone's pics, so I'd love to share ours.  Hopefully the campground will be dry by then.  We've had so much rain it is unbelievable.

Any idea how the Saco is looking?  I've got a long weekend memorial day up there in Freyeburg ME.  Hope it's high but not too dangerous.  Best of luck on your maiden voyage

I have not heard much about the Saco, or flooding in Maine.  It seems that most of the flooding has been in our neck of the woods here in NH, and a lot of it in the Lowell, MA area.  The water seems to be receding fairly quickly though, so if we can stay somewhat dry over the next week, we may be okay!
