Hello,

Got back the other day from two nights at the Freeport, ME KOA for the free night of camping.  We were worried about the monsoon we had been having here in MA prior to our departure.  Nicely enough we ended up being just north of the kaos and had relatively dry (although overcast) weather.  Only three problems, 1) it poured Friday night during set-up and all night, 2) the ride home took twice as long due to I-95 being flooded in York, ME and 3) arrived home to 1' of water in my basement.

Other than that, the trip was excellent.  Anyone else take advantage of the KOA hospitality during the free night?

We did. We used to tent camp, now we own the pop-up. It was great, but I am trying to limit setting up / taking down time. I was exhausted. Didn't get there until dark, so of course being new to this, it was even worse.. : (   but it ended up being ok. I think I have it down pat a little more now.

Glad to hear someone else took advantage of the KOA free camping night. What a generous gesture for the KOAs to do to kick off the summer camping season.  Thank you.

We have a new popup camper (have had used ones for years).  We camped closed to home for Friday night to try out the amenities in our new camper and help break it in before we are on the road for 2 1/2 weeks in June.  Had to run home once as we forgot the camper keys for the storage areas.  Everything worked great.  Cold windy and rainy weather cleared enough for the kids to burn off some energy on the cg playground while we grilled out, and have a campfire and s'mores.  Started raining again at bedtime, the perfect time to listen to the rain.

KOA was clean and very hospitable.  We are staying at a few on our trip as they are the closest to the interstate system on our trip out west.

Hope everyone else who took advantage of the KOA camping night enjoyed their stay.
Happy camping

We took advantage of the free KOA night last week too.  Actually our vacation just happened to be the same week, so one night was free !!!!  We went to the KOA Lake Placid, NY in the ADK. mountains.  VERY NICE !!!! did some hiking, sitting around, shopping, saw 2 movies in town "RV"  (a must see) and The Posidean..... great movie too !!!! :)  not alot of people out yet camping at the KOA, Lake Placid was quiet.  The campground lost 105 trees this past winter, in Jan. 06'  the winds up there were up to 90 mph, alot of trees down in the woods and hiking trails.  My Shadow Cruiser TT was ok but I pick up my new Jayco pup Monday 5/22   yeah !!!!!  p.s.  Insurance is through State Farm too, I have a few policys with them, my pup ins. is $115.00/Year and thats a $50. deduc. Thanks, J-Bird

No camping for us.  I thought about it, but there just wasn't time.  I did check out two PA SP campgrounds while DH and DS were fishing at one of the parks.:)

You betcha.  After staying at the SF North KOA last year and having a ton of people wander thru our site on the way to the restroom scaring my wife half to death I wasn't going to miss it.  I figured they owed me at least that after not being willing to help with the walk thru problem.  I stayed Fri only and had reserved a water/electric site and arrived only to find us assigned to a water only site.  Went back and insisted on a w/e site as was noted on my confirmation and they finally came up with one.

My experience with KOA's has been poor and I will usually stay anywhere else.  For as much as the one's near me charge I can stay in the motel 6 cheaper!  I have found that they are crowded, sites are small, and there seem to be a lot of users (I hesitate to call them campers) with no manners or common sense what-so-ever.

So we turned the girls loose on the pool, went and got a great pizza, played cards until late in the evening, and left before 9am.  Helped make up for some of our terrrible experiences.

If KOA is you piece of cake - go for it.  It just isn't for me.

abbear,  Sorry to hear about your bad experience with KOA's.

We took advantage as well and went down to Concrete, Washington.  It is a very nice site, they are doing lots up upgrades.  The kids loved it!  Took advantage of the Sunday Pancake breakfast so I didn't have to cook before taking down.

Only problem was the 1 1/2 hr drive took 5 hours!  Since we had to go from BC, Canada we had border issues.  Got searched, then hit traffic, had to grocery shop as we can't bring much over.

My family has been camping at the same KOA in the Okanagon for 30 years or so.  It has always been a good family experience.  I do agree though that if the campground is full it is a little close to the neighbours for my true liking.

I second the motion. We stayed at the KOA (parking lot) in Reno at the Hilton and had a miserable time. The airport is right next door and the lighting in the CG is so bright that I sat at the table outside at night and read my PUT mag without any lighting except the CG lights. I had to take the Pop Up Gizmos bunk end covers off of the top of the bunk ends and attach them inside to black out the light. I'll never stay at KOA again. It sucked. :swear:

P.S. Never say never.
