OK  a Newbie here.  I would liek to get in a trip or two but it is still in the 50's at night here.  We have a 8 month old and a 3 year old so needing a little heating suggestions.  My pop-up has ac with place to put heat but I do not know much about how well that works and is a space heater might be better ...any suggestions

We use a heater similar to the top one found here:
http://www.pelonis.com/discfurn.htm

It's small, powerful and varies it's power to deliver thermostat control.  It easily heats our PUP into the upper 30's.  Of course, you have to have at least shore power hook up to run it.

The heat strips that you put in an AC unit produce the same amount of heat that a cube heater puts out.  If you are handy you can install it yourself.  The air will only feel luke warm when you run it.  The fan is blowing the air so quickly over the heating element that it never feels hot (like a cube heater does), but it does produce heat.  In February when we camped the AC heating element kept the camper about 30 degrees above the outside temperature.  I like the AC heat better than a cube heater.  It is always in the camper and it doesn't take up any extra space, I don't have to worry about anyone or our dog knocking the heater over, it blows the warm air into the bunkends, and even if you are using it in conjunction with another heater it will circulate the hot air as it rises to the ceiling.Have fun camping.:)

I too have little ones thus the concern with them getting too cold during the night.  Our PU is equipped with a heater but when dry camping I am always worried about draining the battery.  So we went out and bought a Mr Buddy Portable Heater that is run off the small disposable propane bottles.  We love it!

Most importantly the Heater is safe to use indoors and is very effective in our trailer.  The only thing it lacks is a fan to circulate the air (also bought a cheap battery powered fan).

The great thing about the heater is it is extremely portable and relatively inexpensive to run.

I would lean towards the A/C heating element for the safety reason.  I have a 7 month old and a 3, almost 4 year old.  I wouldn't think of having anything anywhere near the floor or on something that could fall onto the floor and possibly burn the children.  The A/C heat will do an adequate job at 50 degrees as tlhdoc said.  If you're camping with electricity, it'll also save you from having to buy/refill your propane tanks.  Also, there's no risk (no matter how small) of Carbon Monoxide poisioning with electric heat.....
