Since I got a mailer from Good Sam VIP insurance I called to get a quote and compare with the insurance I already have to see if I could save money as the mailer says I will. Here is the quote they just emailed me:

Vehicle #
1) 2006 CAMP ANMERICAN SANTA FE

Other Than Collision $100 Deductible
Towing And Labor Costs $75
Collision $200 Deductible
Personal Effects $3,000

Based on the information you provided and the above coverages, the total cost to insure your vehicle(s) for six months is $123.00. (NOTE - Liability coverages for non-motorized vehicles are assumed by the towing vehicle.)

I have the same coverage with Met Life (our auto carrier) that cost me $82 for 12 months. So Good Sam ain't being GOOD to me ! ! !

Yeah, I found their prices extremely outrageous.  My new hybrid is only about $120/year with State Farm.

I don't like them or AARP. We pay them to be a member. All they do is advertise to us (mostly insurance of some sort or other) and when we compare prices to what we can find privately, they are out of line. They profit, coming and going and we pay out of both ends (if we are gullible enough to buy from them).

I think that it is criminal to charge someone so that they can advertise to you. :eyecrazy:   What's that all about

AARP!

Grrr.

I just got a letter from them today asking me to renew my membership. (I had had a one-year membership and let it lapse.) I won't do it, because they are too political. They don't represent my views in the political arena, so why should I support them?

On insurance. Beat this if you can: I pay $35 extra a year to include my popup on my auto insurance. I'm with a small company out of Pennsylvania called Erie. I know they do business in NY and PA, but I don't know beyond that.

Popupper

The Good Sam Club is part of AGI, the same company that owns Camping World, RV Business magazine, MotorHome magazine, Trailer Life magazine, Camping Life magazine, several boating magazines, Thousand Trails membership campgrounds, several other campground chains, several insurance and finance companies, a bunch of RV dealerships, RV.net and a campground reservation service.  It's unbelieable how big-a-hold they have on the rv and camping biz. Talk about a monopoly.

I read the letters to the editor in the new RVE and can't believe how many people think PUT is selling out. I think they're standing up against the Big Gorilla and I support them all of the way.

Wow, I thought I would be taking some hits about this post. I joined Good Sam because of a deal at Camping World this year for only $2. I thought most campers were members. But after joining, the only perks I got so far is MORE AND MORE advertising from them as waverly mentioned. The 2 cent discount on gas from Loves gas stations is already discontinued and I never even seen one of these places. Next year I'll spend the $2 on a gallon of gas, that way I'll get MAYBE 50% off.  :yikes:   :)

I also have my 02 popup with my auto insurance (AARP/The Hartford).  It's not very expensive, but (and I've been meaning to do this!), when you go with a "dedicated" RV insurance plan you can get replacement costs.  And, of course, this policy will be more expensive.

not sure if the Good Sam policy has replacement costs.

The thing with Good Sam VIP RV insurance is it is GMAC that your dealing with.

Yes, it is quite a hassel.  When we got the new to us 5th wheel and the bigger truck I when serching for a better quote than I had with 21st Century.  I wasn't real happy with how 21st classified my Hybred.  They listed it under "Utility Trailer".  I was told by them that as long as it was listed by name on the policy it was covered and had replacement cost included.  Well, when I was doing my search, I call one of the insurance companies that was advertised in on of the camping publications (can't remember who it was, Good Sam, Camping World, etc.).  Anyway when I was taling to the agent (Liberty Mutual) and told him we had purchased a 5th wheel, he didn't even know what a 5th wheel was!!!!  I asked him how old he was and he wouldn't answer me.  I told him that they advertise in camping/RV magazines and he didn't even know what group of people they were advertising to.  Needless to say, his quote was outragous.  I finally went with Allstate because I have my homeowners through them and I got a discount on that policy by having both auto and homeowners through them.
