What should I be aware of when using my camper after a yr off?

I am a novice Pop-up camper.  I purchased a new Coleman Timberlake pop-up in Aug 2000.  I have only used it a couple of times every other yr because my boys were born in the spring of 2001/2003/2005.  I am going to take it out after a year off.  I opened it up and the inside is good.  I re-installed the anode in the heater and flushed out the anti-freeze.  The battery didn't seem to fair too well because it leaked and hissed during charging so I replaced the battery.  Is there anything I should be cautious of with the Axle/Tires or other trailor parts?

Tires need to be used to stay in good condition.  You should check them for "dry rot."  Look for cracks along the edges of the tread and between the treads.  Also look for loose pieces of tire.  Most rec. tires dry rot before wearing out.

The bearings should probably be re-greased.  With most bearings, this does not need to be done very often, but bearings that sit a long time can have the grease migrate to the bottom of the bearing (or the top if it's wet enough), exposing the other half to rust.  If your trailer has brakes, this would be a good time to inspect and adhust them.

Make sure the hitch parts move freely and are not excessively rusted.  A dab of grease won't hurt.

Make sure the electrical contacts (on both the trailer and your tow vehicle) are free of rust and corrosion, and that all the lights work.  If you have electric brakes, make sure they are working (something that should be checked every time you hook up).

I'm sure others will contribute more.

open it way before you are going to use it, and inspect the canvas for mildrew or rot,  hit it with a garden hose to check the water proofing , it might look good, but you need to see if water proofing is at its maxium , check well along the seams! and were it attachs to the box. check your cable system does it crank up ez? and everything austin said!
