This question is just out of curiosity, for the way in the distance future (I am an obsessive-compulsive planner :eyecrazy: ).  Could someone please tell me if there are any CG's closer than one hour to Manhattan, and safe enough to leave your belongings at for an entire day at a time.  Nothing fancy required, just a place to park the PUP, and clean restrooms to take a shower.  My wife and I have been to Manhattan twice now and, to our surprise, loved it.  I want to head up that way for 2-3 weeks, and take the boys this time.  I also have a half brother in Buffalo I haven't seen in about 10 years, and I'd like to drop in on him during that time. I figured after about 5 or 6 days visiting Manhattan, we ought to be touristed out enough to spend the rest of the time in Buffalo and make several stops on the way back.  Since we have the camper anyway  :) , and I don't want it to go to waste  :D , this seems like a good chance to really do some long distance camping, and let the boys see some of the country along the way :usflag: .  I know I can count on this group for some experienced help.  Thanks.

Well, if there aren't any that are less than a mile, how about as close as possible.  Are there any New Yorkers out there that can help?

Yes, in this thread I posted a message talking about Liberty Harbor RV Park.  There are positives and negatives associated with this park.  I would go back there again, but avoid Friday or Saturday nights.  It gets noisy with the bar across the way until about 2:00.  Of course, if you enjoy partying, join the party.  We didn't have a problem with security and felt safe anytime we were in the campground.  One night we came home late after a Broadway show, never had a problem with subways, PATH trains, walking the streets, etc.  The bathhouses were not clean.  We use flip flops and bathmats in the shower areas.  That was a big negative.  Also, be prepared for a true parking lot situation.  The big positive is the proximity to the city.  It's only 15 minutes by PATH train to downtown Manhattan (33rd St., IIRC) from the campground.
