We purchased our pop up in March and are getting ready to go on our first big camping trip next week. I am pretty much and airhead and don't remember much of the demonstration given by the dealer on popping up and down. Fortunately my DH is not so empty headed and remembers most of it:) My question is there are 2 support bars that clamp onto the arms that hold the roof up. I remember the dealer stating that they should go on opposite corners but I don't remember if they should be used every time you pup or only as a quick fix if there is a problem with the cable. We used the camper overnight on Memorial Day and used the braces b/c we didn't know if we should or not. Just wondering if they are needed or not. Does weather change the situation? We are camping for 10 days in southern Indiana and the past few (28) years there is usually one big storm when we are there. Thanks for any input!

Yep ~ use them every time.  We had those on the old Palomino ~ took me a while to get used to not having them on the Jayco!

Happy Camping.

Yup, you should use them.  They are a safety feature.

However, be sure to remove them before you lower the roof.  You will find your roof on a funny angle if you don't.  Been there, done that.

Oh, and not stowing the door before you lower the roof, will also do funny things to the roof angle when lowering.

Happy camping

Paige!

The best answer I can think of is "When in doubt, go to your owners manuel."

Mine has a very concise numbered procedure list, on putting the camper up and also taking it back down!

It is very helpful in answering those type of questions. In time you will not need a prompt, but it is nice to have a verbatum procedure list!

Have fun and don't worry!

I bought a used '98 Mesa and have the owners manual but it is very general. The previous owner gave us a run through of putting up and taking down, but someone on this thread had a great step-by-step list which I copied and pasted in Word and keep in the Pup. Ive used it enough now that I know the routine, but when you first start out it's a little scary. I came home from work the other day and DH had moved the fully set up Pup and had left it with the stabilizers up and propped on the trailer hitch wheel. Thank goodness it was almost level. I put the stabilizers back down and re-leveled it. Could there be damage to the lifts? Everything seems to work OK.

What did you use to level the trailer.  Having it set up with the jacks up and the tongue wheel down will not hurt the trailer, unless you go inside and move to the rear of the PU.  Then the camper will tip.:)

Sequoyausa - can you send me a copy of the step-by-step list? I've only set up and taken down the pu 1 time. My owners manual is too general and since I'm new to this I don't want to screw up.
