I'm thinking of buying a used pop-up and want to know what to look for.  I know about kicking the tires and looking at the general conditions, but what I really want to know is, from those who have bought used, what do you wish you would've considered or thought about, or looked into before you bought yours?

Look long and hard for any kind of abuse or neglect.  PU's can be costly to repair if things are ready to go.  Water damage, canvas/vinyl tears, and all around mechanical workings are very important concerns.

Use every appliance to make sure it works (stove, furnace, water heater, etc), check in every cupboard, drawer for any signs of water or other damage.  Check for soft spots in the floor and roof, check the tires for dry rot, how smoothly the lift system works, etc.  Sniff for the smells of mold and mice.  Find a good dealer that is willing to service any problems with your trailer.  Check out floor plans and options that you might want by looking at new trailers.  Good luck finding a PU.:)

When we bought ours last year, we thought we did a good job of checking it out. However, there were a few things that we missed. Be sure you hook it up to a water supply and try the faucet. Ours works when you pump it from the tank, but leaks like crazy when attached to city water. Check the doors and drawers to make sure they all work properly. Check for missing or broken bungee cords.
Most important of all: if you are buying from a dealer, inspect all promised repairs carefully. Our dealer promised to replace our tires. Instead, they rotated them and painted them with tire cleaner so they looked new. They both blew out on our first trip and the spare wouldn't hold air. They also repalced a missing bulb and lens from our porch light but the bulb was the wrong size and melted the new lens the first time it was turned on. We were naive but you don't have to be.

One thing you have to remember is you are buying a used camper.  When I sold my 1997 Starcraft in 2005 some things are a little worn.  The guy who wanted to buy it was looking for a used pup that was brand new.  It was garage stored since I picked it up in 1997.  It was in great shape.  Some things I did before selling which I think you should check for.
Put on new tires and spare-saftey
Cleaned canvas and pup inside-cosmetic
Put new tile floor down-cosmetic
Put new brake pads on-saftey
Replace bearings and repacked-saftey.

Make sure it is set up at the place you go to buy.  Have them show you everything works, such as water hose connected to city water, electric hooked up.  Some people do not know alot about pups either buyer or seller.  Right after he bought the pup he called back, and told me the water pipes were leaking into the propane????????  I went over there (too nice says DW) and they had blown every water line because new owner was cleaning out the fresh water system with pressure washer    No propane anywhere. Read as much as you can with the forum, it will help you and when you buy your next pup it will help you as well, I would have never known what to look for in a new pup with slides and water heaters and what not  good luck
