Hot Water heater question

Just got back from our first camping trip in our 'new' Pup.  Great time and good weather in Mrytle Beach, SC, only problem was i could not figure out the hot water heater.  According to the instructions in manual and on water heater i made sure the water heater was full of water before lighting, then it said to follow instructions on heater.  Well, and i know i was probably looking straight at it, but where do you actually light the pilot light at?  and what/where is the reset button, i couldn't figure it out.  Any help or suggestions?  I felt like an idiot because it should be quite simple, i've lit the hot water heater in my house on several occasions.

We have a hot water heater for the first time also.
We do not have a reset button, even tho the manual mentions it.

What we have to do on our Niagara is hold down the knob and turn it to pilot.  Then you use one of those long fire starter/candle lighter gizmos.  We stick it under the metal looking things (sorry, I know that is really technical!) but not too far back. Then you  will see and hear the pilot light.
you then turn the know from pilot to on.

I hope this helps.

As Sherry noted, it's pretty hard to describe. Maybe you can visit a nearby dealer and have them show you one in operation? Or maybe someone here can link up to some on-line photos?

What brand of water heater do you have?:)

Just a tip - cut a short length of pvc to hold the pilot button down - then you can concentrate on watching the pilot light.

The hot water lights exactly the same as the one in your house, except the line feeding it has to be purged of air.  My heater is located all the way to the rear. Leaving a long line full of air.

First I light the stove in the PUP.  That takes a bit of time since it's purging some of the air out of the line.
Then if you heater is in the back, get comfortable, and push the knob on the HW heater valve down and hold it for a timed minute.  Try to light it with an Aim and Flame.  Almost never lights at the one minute mark, try again at the 90 second mark,  and most likely it will light after two minutes.  Hold the knob down for another 30 seconds, and turn it from Pilot to On.

If you are using it in the propane mode light the refrigerator last.

If your heater is in a foward compartment, it should light almost immediately if you got the stove going first.

If it's ready to go at the 95 second mark, this could singe a bit of hair...
