Planning on taking my wife to visit DizzyWorld (TM).  Been quite a while since I'd been there.  What is a good campground?  Fort Wilderness is a bit expensive, plus we won't be there long, just one or two nights.  Thinking about staying at "The other fort", Fort Summit.  Price seems reasonalble for a Water/Elect tent site, and they have a Shuttlebus so I don't have to drive to the park.  Any other recomendations??  Also, any recommendations on which tickets to buy?  Dizzy at times has advertised One Day tickets, Annual Passes, Florida Resident tickets....ect.  Not sure how often we might go up that way in a year, so not sure if we should just spring for the annual pass or not.

thanks,
Allan

Don't know about campgrounds, have never gone that far south with the camper.  There are several discount ticket webpages.  //www.mousesavers.com is one.  AAA quite often has discounted tickets.  If your planning multiple trips, you might want to consider up to a 7 day pass with the no expiration option instead of the annual pass.  It would be cheaper.  You don't say if you're a Florida resident.  If so, probably the Florida pass would be the best way to go.

Another terrific help to us has been the book "The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World".  It covers every conceivable aspect of Walt Disney world, dealing with every subject you could imagine.  It even has researched touring plans that help you save time by reducing time in line.  Great book!

Yep. Florida residents....or at least I am.  Wife is a legal resident alien, has a Florida drivers licence, so I believe that Dizzyworld would consider her a Florida resident.  Not real sure how often we would go.  Orlando is a couple hours away, so it is possible that she may want to visit the other parks after our visit to "The Tragic Kingdom".

Made reservations at Ft. Summit this morning.  Coming from Port St. Lucie, FL, their directions would have me get off of I95 at Vero beach, go west on Highway 60 to US 27 and north to the campground.  I've never driven on hwy 60 or US 27 before, not sure if they are divided hwys or just 2 lanes.  Alternatly, I could go by the Turnpike up to US 192, through Kissimmee and to I 4 and down.  May be a few miles out of the way and some toll cost, but I would be on divided, multi lane hwys most of the way.  My concern is that I am not planning on driving much over 60mph and don't want to hold up traffic trying to get by me.  Any thoughts on this?

My experience and recollection of Orlando/Kissimmee driving is if you're on 2 lane, you're not going to go 60 mph.  Save the tolls and go the short way.  Remember, also, when you're towing you've got 3 or 4 axles.  Tolls go up.

Both 60 and 27 in this area are major roads.  IIRC both are 4 lane divided most of the time.

Why are you going?  You don't sound too thrilled about it.

We just stay at Fort Wilderness site 1301. We had great time there and never left the campground.

I dunno....maybe you have no sarcastic humor.  Other than calling the place "Dizzyworld" and "The Tragic Kingdom", I don't see where anywhere in my post sounded not too thrilled.  Even though I've been to the "Evil Empire" a few times, I was looking forward to taking my wife, as she had never been.  Unfortunatly, my father fell down and broke his hip  5 days before we were to go, and we had to cancel.  He's out now, but still needs some assistance with things around the house, and my wife is now preggy, I'm not sure when we may go now.  Part of the deal was that she was to take me to "The Enchanted Kingdom"

Just spent 2 weeks at Fort Wilderness site 854 - preferred with full-hookup.  The campground is great, clean and quiet - very large.  The sites are close but seperated with some vegetation.  Lots of big rigs, but still felt at home in our popup.  Two pools, nice marina where you can see the water light parade at 9:45 each evening.  Unless you like walking, you might be interested in renting a golf cart as most people do - around $45 a day but well worth it for us.  Well stocked campstores. Didn't spend much time at the campground since  we went to the parks - used Disney transportation without problem other than some slowness.
