Trailer / truck fuse blows

When I plug in the trailer to the truck all the brake lights and etc. work.  But, the fuse in the car goes bad.
All the lights on th etrailer still work but the battery will not charge under way.
The battery is still good.
I have visually checked the wires from the trailer hitch to the car and battery.  Nothing out of the ordinary.
I can still charge the battery the old fashion way with jumpers and etc. but, it would be nice to get the charge from the hook up.

It is getting expensive trying things because the fuses are about $4 each.

Any ideas?

What fuse in the car?  What brand, model, year vehicle?  Is the hot line from the car "hot"?  Are the car and camper wired so that the matching pins are the same on both of them?:)

You may have a poor ground connection from the trailer wiring harness. That would build up resistance and blow a fuse. You may also have a shorted connection somewhere. It may be corrosion in the trailer plug itself.

When I bought my PU the same thing happened to me.  The lights on the camper worked and the lights on my dash would go out.  It made driving at night fun.  Turns out I had a short in my wiring of the camper.  I got that fixed and havent had a problem since.

The fuse is labled for the wire harness for trailers.
1999 Ford Expedition
Not sure about hot line.
This is a challenge that just showed up during the first trip.  Everything was in working order last year.
