I hope someone out there can help us.  We just purchased our first pop-up a 2001 Jayco Eagle 14SO and we need help on the water system.  The manual doesn't seem to help too much.  We connect the water hose from the campground spigot to the city water valve but don't know where to hook up our other hose so the water will drain from the sink into the campground waste water drain.  We've tried everything, but when we turn the water on in the sink it immediately discharges out the back of the camper from the hot water tank.  Please excuse our ignorance but we can't figure this out.

Is it draining from the water line(s) to/from the water heater or the actual water heater? I know my water lines to/from the water heater have drain valves at the low point in the lines so I can completly drain the lines.

I am going to assume most all RV style water heaters are the similar, on the front of the water heater is a plug/drain that can be removed to drain the water heater (during winter/storage). Is this 'plug' missing?

We actually put the plug in to the water heater and turn the water on in the sink - then no water came out at all.  We thought the outside plug directly where the sink is would be where the hose would connect to let the water drain out, but that isn't the case - when I draw water into the sink if the plug is in the hot water tank - no water drains out at all - does the hot water tank have to fill up before it will come out??  Thanks for any and all of your help.

Yup, it takes 6 gallons to fill the water heater, and you'll get air until it fills. Also do not start the water heater until you are assolutely sure it's full. If you have an outside shower you can use it to let the air out rather than the sink faucet. When the air comes out as the water fills you normally get some "spurting" and it can go all over when using the faucet inside the trialer.

Mike4947 - sorry, but I don't think I'm explaining this correctly so I'll start over - sorry but I'm a new camper.  When we are setting up the camper we hook up our freshwater hose, but we can't figure out where the other hose connects to the camper that will take the old water out.  When we first used the water at the sink (no air in the lines) we had water coming out of our hotwater tank all over the ground - then we found the plug so we plugged the hotwater tank.  Now we still can't figure out where are we supposed to hook up our other hose to get the water out of the camper once we drain the sink??  Can you help me with this?

On our Jayco the water in is right above the water out. If yours is the same, there might be something blocking the drain.

We do hook up our hose to what appears to be the logical out for the water which is right beside the city water connection, but no water ever comes out of that connection - not even a drop....our manual just doesn't help here.

Do you have a inside shower also or just the galley sink? If you have a shower, does the water drain from that?

If the water isn't draining, is the sink full now and the water has nowhere to go?  If this is the case, you may be blocked up as Moose mentioned. Maybe check the 'P' trap under the sink, could be as simple as that.

No inside shower/toilet - just the outside shower.  The water drains from the sink and is going somewhere but we don't know where because it's not coming out of the hose that we have hooked up outside to go into the sewer.  I'll check with everything on the sink - any other suggestions?  Thanks to all of you for any and all help.

This really should not be this difficult.  Typically the sink drain is directly inline and just below the sink.  It should be a male hose thread connection.
If you do not have that it is somewhat possible that a Jayco could have a small grey water tank.  In which case the outlet drain would be just below the frame of the PU and would probably be an 1 1/4 connection.

That water is going somewhere.  Can you look in the cabinet under the sink and see where the drain hose is going.

ohstfaninnc

I totally agree about the difficulty level and I've usually never had so much trouble figuring something out.  The male connection is exactly as you stated, but no water comes out the hose.  We're just at a loss as to where the water could possibly be going at this point.  I've filled the sink up twice and the water has drained from the sink, but hasn't exited the camper........I'm biting my tongue but maybe I just need to go back to tenting.......you're right.....that's a dumb idea....I'm desperate!

Garrett

Okay, by process of elimination.

1. Water is going somewhere.

2. There is a drain on the side of the camper, but no water comes out of the drain

3.  This is a 2001 unit and you are not the original owner.

Somebody has modified this PU and installed a grey water tank.  You need to open the cabinets, take out the drawers whatever you need to do to trace the drain line from the sink and see where it goes.

I am convinced that somewhere underneath the PU is a aftermarket drain valve.

ohstfaninnc

You're right we are not the original owners and this is our first PU.  We will definitely look it over and see if we see the grey tank - however, we did put a brand new floor in the entire PU (including under the cabinets and in the storage areas) and never once saw a grey tank anywhere, but you're right it has to be going somewhere.  Thanks for all your help.

I had the same problem when we got ours last year.  There should be a hose type hook up under your camper with a cap on it.  Ours was just behind and below where the sink sits on the underside of the camper.  You should be able to follow the drain pipe down to the approx. location.  I had my sink leak out all over a couple of time before I figured it out, so don't feel too dumb.  Good luck , I hope this is the answer.

Garrett

WHOA!  that cetainly changes things.  That means you had all the cabinets out.  Now I am suspecting that when you put them back in the sink drain was never hooked back up.  I bet that water is lying in the bottom of your cabinets and if you keep running water it will eventually show up and run all over the floor.  Or where do you have the PU parked.  It could be slowly seeping outside and soaking in and you are just not noticing it.
