Hi, we used to camp at Salter Path, and now thats gone, anyone have a suggestion for a nice family oriented campsite near Atlantic, Carolina, or beaches nearby Wilmington, NC?

Thanks!

I was wondering the same thing as the wife and I just bought our first pop up.

I was on line looking at Wilmington KOA and thought it would give me a good chance to check out other areas around there for good spots.

Of course the DANG RAIN is keeping us home.  We have owned this camper for 2 weeks and it is driving me crazy....I want to go camping but the wife has never been and the last thing I want to do is take her on her first trip and it be a rain disaster.

We have a reservation for Wilmington KOA on August 5, so I will let you know what I think ;)

Please do!  I like that area and if you find other campgrounds let us know!

We went to the KOA in Wilmington 2 weeks ago.  Very nice.  Good pool and playground for the kids.  A stage where on some weekends they have bands playing.  Not while we were there.  Good showers adn friendly staff. A grocery store is very close.  10 minutes drive to the beach access.  A little noisy due to hwy 17 running by outside camp ground.  If you are near the back that is not that noticable.  We will go back.

Emerald Isle has the Holiday Trav L Park which is right on the beach.  A lot better than packing up and driving there.  Nice also.

Carolina Beach State Park is nice. We tented, and it was really REALLY hot, but the campground itself is nice. FYI though, the showers don't have curtains(people kept pulling them down and they would get moldy, so they just no longer have them)

We just got back from our week there, and I would rate it pretty average.  Just one bathroom, so you sometimes had to wait, the floor was all sandy (but I was always wearing shoes so its ok).  The showers ran hot and cold depending on who was flushing, etc.  The pool was nice, and the staff was nice though.  I didnt care for Wrightsville Beach, and we ended up driving to Topsail and Fort Fisher, so we will probably try and camp closer to one of those next time.

I have stayed there several times - it is a nice campground.  The highway is a bit noisy, but the campground is tucked away some distance from the road.  The place is well run and well kept.  They had a free hotdog cookout the last time we were there.  They have a wide range of spots from out in a field to tucked in under the trees.

I like the fact that you are a mile or two from major stores restaurants and such - 10 minutes from the beach! :)

Have Fun
