Help!

Recently, I discovered a soft spot in the front storage compartment, at the left front corner.  Underneath the camper at this spot feels a little soft, but on the inside it is absolutley brittle.  It is a 6in x 6in section.

Aside from identifying the cause, what can I do to correct this?  Also, will this rotting 'spread' if the cause is corrected, and I do nothing?

Being a newbie, and learning a bunch from this site and other areas of the net, I was hoping to get some advise from you all here who may have 'lived it', so to speak.

thanks for you time.

Camping Coxes

Funny, we found the same thing this weekend.  Turns out the panel above the  hinges at the back of the lid has two hairline cracks that are letting water in.  The water is running along the lid and dropping near the water heater.  After assuming we had a WH leak and tearing it out and inspecting it, we found we actually had a water leak. The front left corner of our cargo trunk is "mooshy."  We're going to tear into it and see if we can repair it fairly easily.  If not, we'll leave it alone until it has to be dealt with.  That are is near the WH and we don't really use it for anything heavy for fear of it shifting and damaging the WH lines.  I suggest you do the same.

So check for leaks.  If you know rain is coming, you might want to tarp the front end of the trailer to keep the water damage from getting worse.
