Hi,

Just bought a used 1998 Jayco Heritage 12' popup & we're getting ready to take it on its first camping trip with us this weekend.  It didn't come with a spare & I've been searching for one over the past couple weeks so we can have it in time for the trip.

Problem is - I can't seem to find one!!!  The tire place near us doesn't carry them, and Sears told us to try Gander Mt.  I called them, but the guy who they claim would know was, of course, away from his department at that moment.)  I saw a couple on ebay, but obviously don't have time to wait for shipping.

Any suggestions?  Hubby's going to try an RV dealer, hopefully they have one in stock & won't charge an arm & a leg.  But I'd like to know the best place/site to get them from in the future.  Thanks.

We purchased ours from //www.jcwhitney.com we had the tires at our door in 2 days to AZ with free shipping. They also had the lowest price for tires. You can order online or by phone. Their # 1-800-603-4383. Hope this helps you out.

No doubt the 12" tire your Jayco takes would be a 5.30 X 12" Load Range "C"
The load range "C" is very important for that size tire. Should you end up with the same size tire and they be a load range "B" you would be overloading the tire and it would fail shortly. You can't tell the difference except by reading what it says on the tire's sidewall. The "C"'s will say they are rated to carry 1,045 lbs @ 80psi - the "B"'s are rated to carry less weight and do not require as high psi.

Wal-Mart carrys the 12' tire and rims ... but be careful ... watch for the load ratings! At my local wal-mart a couple of years ago found two "C"'s amongst all the "B"'s and I got the tire and a new wheel for $42.00 each. But any tire store can order you out the "C" range 12" tires. Just be careful and make sure they are the "C"'s! These tire stores all buy their tires from a local tire distrubtor and they handle trailer tires, too.

I purchased my tires from Tirerack.com   Great place to buy tires.  Nobody and I mean nobdy had the 13" size tires that I needed for my 2000 Fleetwood Seapine!

The tires came in the mail within 2 days;  Then I had Pep Boys mount them on the existing rims for $5/tire!  I then installed them myself on the popup.  In the end, I couldn't be happer with the price with that.  Make sure you use the star pattern to install the tires on the popup.  MAke sure when removing the tires from the popup, that you use a car jack, don't rely on the stabilizers to hold the popup up when removing the tires!   I did that and of course one failed;  Good thing nobody like me was killed!  It did cost me a half a day to get a new stabilizer; remove the old one and install a new one.  I talked with the RV dealer and he says it happens all the time and the stabilizers are definitely not meant to hold the entire weight of the popup with out the tires.

Wow, thanks for the quick replies.  Our PU takes 13" tires, but nobody has them in stock - even the RV dealers in our area!  I find that bizarre.  Hubby did go to Gander, btw - no luck.  I don't know if our Walmart carries tires at all, but the Super one may.

Thanks for the safety tips too, we were already warned about not using the stabilizers.  We have AAA plus an RV travel protection plan, and we're only driving about 4 hours.  Hopefully we won't have any problems, but we can get help if necessary.  In the meantime, I've bid on a new tire on Ebay so we'll have it for the next time.  If I don't get it, I'll be sure to check out the websites you guys gave me.

Thanks again.  This is a fantastic forum.  :)

I also ordered my Duro tires from JC Whitney.  If you have a Tractor Supply, or any regular tire shops in you area check with them.  Good luck getting the new tire.:)

Sorry ... mis-read your post. Your were referring to the length of your popup as a 12' and I was thinking tires and thought 12" tires!. No, don't think Wally Mart would carry the 13" tires ... all I've ever seen there are the 12".

But again, I know a fella who works for a tire distrubtor and he tells me they always have trailer tires in stock. But then, that's for this area of the sunny south!

I almost blew out a tire on the way to the Eastern Ralley this year. I lost a section of tread. I was lucky enough to find a pair of the correct size and rated tires at Wal-Mart in Ashtabula Ohio.

Gone-Camping

You could probably buy a tire and rim at Northern Tools, they carry several different sizes...

Tractor Supply stores carry the 13" Tire & Wheel combo.

I purchased three new Nankang (load rated D) tires for my popup because of a long trip.  The first tire blew about 800 miles into the trip.  When I got to my destination, I had another tire Fed-Ex
