Prodigy Brake Controller

We just had a Tekonsha Prodigy brake controller installed on our TV. The folks at Eckhart's Trailer Hitch & Welding said that they couldn't really tell us how to work it because they sell and recommend other more simpler controllers. So hoping it's not that difficult. We have not read the manual yet.

We also found out that even though the 2002 Fleetwood/Taos has electric brakes, it does not have the correct connector and wiring for the controller. So we are taking the PU to Eckhart's to have the wiring done. They will also check the brakes and re-pack the bearings.

It's really easy to use.  I can't really give the specifics, but it's easy.

You will not be disappointed.

The Prodigy does all the work for you once you set it. when I got mine, it came with DVD video, showing you how to use it. so check your box. Make sure that they install the 7 pin connector for you. its the more universal connector being used. But read that manual and you will see it is quit easy to use.  :book:

When I set up my Prodigy earlier this year, it was very simple:

1)  Make sure there are no loose items in your camper (bottles (even in fridge), dishes, etc), but preferably "normally loaded". (note, this was not in the instructions, but my idea, due to #5 below).

2)  Drive down a level, dry road at 25 MPH.

3)  Engage the "manual trailer brake" lever on the Prodigy, to max.

4)  If trailer brakes don't lock up, increase the Prodigy setting (default is like 6, I had to boost to like 10 in the end).

5)  When trailer brakes lock up, note value.  Then DECREASE just slightly.

6)  Clean up interior of camper

==>  You want, under MAX vehicle braking, for your camper to have max braking WITHOUT wheels locking up.

Because, under normal driving conditions, your trailer brakes are already warm about 5 minutes after you leave home, and remain "warm" until after you get to your destination

(ie, warm brakes work very slightly differently from cold ones).
