I got a disturbing email message today that had a Popup Times sender on it and was one of those "you have a long-lost relative in blah blah blah that has left you a substantial sum of money, etc. etc.". Apparently people are perusing this site for email adresses. Just wanted everyone to be aware. I deleted it once I saw the tone of the letter.

Nothing new, just the old common "trick" of joining a forum and then sending out messages to everyone with an accessable email. This way they "get" folks that don't post an email address and the forum has an anonymous fowarder.

The key is to not reply, a "verified' email address is worth up to $.10 a shot in selling mailing lists, where as a random non verified addresses go for about a 1/10 of a cent each. These spammers can make money even if you don't fall for their pitch if you reply.
And of course report the offender to the forum moderators.

Happens in various places too. Some troll got into the PUX system and started scamming people from their data base. He got shut down but seems likely he can re-register and start his stuff all over again.

I had one on my forum too, but I managed to block his IP and that took care of him!!

Cliff don't be to sure. Dial up connections change IP's each time they reconnect.
Blocking a "block" that the ISP uses is about the only way to stop them until they change providers and then it starts all over again....LOL

The one I shut out has not been back in the last 8-9 months, I think he gave up on it... Sure, he could change ISP's....but I also have a few other tools at my disposal. As long as he stays away I'm happy....
