Starcraft 2406?

Does anyone have any experience with this model? There is a dealer a couple of hours away from us that is having a red tag sale on there remaining '06 models and they have 2 of the 2406's (brand new). They look nice from the picture and it has a shower/toilet combo. The price is $6,495 which sounds pretty good for a new model. Are they roomy? I was thinking we should go for a slide out model, but with the u-shaped seating this has, it looks like it might be pretty roomy with no slideouts (I believe it is a King/Queen end bed combo). A/C isn't included, but I figured that is probably something we could add later since we're getting into Fall soon. If anyone has any opinions on this model, I'd love to hear it. Thanks again.
P.S. My family includes myself, husband and 4 year old, so it's not as if we're a family of 5 or anything that would need to fit in a popup together.
Thanks again!

H-P : since your family size is such that you will not be run over at the dinner table, I would think this is an ideal unit. Just make sure you have enough tow vehicle to handle it. As for the slide out, I know it's to each his own, but I try to lean toward the thinking that no slide out is less to go wrong and believe me, there have been cases where there have been problems ... with all brands! (Also, a little less weight to tow down the highway, too.)

Another thing, Starcraft is a great company. They have real live tech people and an 800 number you can call for assistance on ANY issue ... you will not simply be referred back to the selling dealer. I know, been there, done that. And that new camper warranty begins from the date you buy the camper, it's not based on the model year.

Thanks for the input! :)

I haven't quite figured out this PU camping yet.  But, we just bought our first PU a few weeks ago.........no slide out.

It does have 2 dining areas though.  One is the traditional type and the other is the horseshoe shaped seating like you are mentioning here.

When we go (and I hope most others) camping, we are seldom inside the camper except to change and sleep.  Being only 2 of us, we have taken out the table all together in the horseshoe area and it makes us feel like there is more room than we even need.  It is nice having the extra roominess feel!!

Sounds like you have a good opportunity on a new unit.

Good luck with your decision...........here is a photo to help:

Thanks looney :)   This unit only has one dining area (where the u-shaped seating is) but I figure we can either take the table out altogether and put it under a screen room for eating purposes with a few folding chairs, or only have it up if we want to eat inside (formally) and then remove it when we're not eating.  Oh co-incidentally, the popup is being sold at Suncoast RV in Monroe, are you familiar with them?

I have been on the lot a couple of times.  Once when they first opened and had a great advertised special on a 5er.  The second time was a few weeks ago when I was looking at the PUs.

The folks there seem nice enough.  I am not a big fan of dealers, so I can't help there. I can tell you that the PU inventory is very small there.  I would say they had 5 PUs and over 100 over types of RVs.

Oh, I just thought about something.  Would you like me to go over and take some photos for you?  I will be going right by there in next day or so.

Wow, that would be awesome (!) if you could, but I don't want to put you out :)

Do you think we need to contact the salesperson?

I am planning on going by there this morning (around 10:30) on my way to Walmart.

I guess I could just tell them that you are considering purchasing it and wanted a few pictures before driving down.

Email me at jack.smith@pcg.com with particulars.

One more thing...................the trailer length is listed at 15'10" and mine is only 11'6".

So, you will have even more length inside than I have with 2 dining areas!!

Pictures can be decieving, but the measurements should tell you more.  Where I have only 11 feet inside from bunk to bunk, you will have nearly 16 feet.

I really don't think you need my photos.  The only drawback would be if you needed sleeping for more 5 (2 in front bunk, 2 in rear and 1 on the dinette), you would give that up for the other usage of your square footage where I have the second dining area.

I see they have a couple online for $9K+...............$6k sounds like a good deal if that fits your budget.

They have a few pictures on their site (I like the material) and I've found more extensive pictures on a 2007 model on another site (but it's still the same floorplan) so that should be good for now.  Now I just have to decide if we really want to drive the 2 1/2 + hours there this weekend just to possibly "look".  Since this is all so new to us, we keep going back and forth about what we want on models.  I'm afraid that this price may be too good to pass up and we might lose out if we don't act on it, but I'm also worried about doing anything to rash.  Thanks again for your offer though! :)

You da man! Thanks :)

In the brief time you saw this, what was your opinion on the model (as far as quality, etc.).  Thanks again!

Looneytoon

I was impressed..................I did not notice whether it had a refrigerator or not?!?!?  I bet it does.  You can always add A/C next spring.

Overall, quite nice and floor that resembles 10"x10" tiles.  I did not look at the shower and don't know if it has a jon.  If I were looking for a "new" unit with the above amenities and could pick it up for $6K, I would jump on it.

Another note: I only saw this one unit, but maybe the other one was not setup or in the same area.

I am glad I could help....................

By the way, when were looking for ours, we searched and called from NY state to Florida.  Every time we found one that sounded good, it was gone before we could get there.  We finally went to Florida to look at a specific one and after a brief intro by the owner, my wife said, "It's Sold" and gave them the cash.

Keep in mind that my wife never buys items over a few hundred dollars without lots of research and I was the one that planted the idea in her mind.  When she saw this one with the horseshoe sofa, ref, A/C, canvas like new and like new tires, she was sold.

Units in outstanding condition (used) are hard to find as they are grabbed very quickly.  Now that fall is coming, maybe that will change, but I doubt it.
