OH COOL!!!! - where are we going??

HersheyGirl

It is 6:30 pm on Friday and I just saw on the news that rts 78,80, and 81 are STILL closed as well as parts of the turnpike and lots of side roads.  What a mess!

Thanks Beckie for the update. I just realized this affects me, too, coz I need to drive to Cleveland by Sunday (rt 80 all through PA). I originally planned to leave Sat morn - now I'm hoping to leave Sunday morn. Have to drive into Manhattan tomorrow am but 80 here seems fine.

I hope Cheryl and crew are okay...  I have not seen her online today.  I hope they read about the roads before they left...

hey di,
route 80 into NYC from you is fine!  was on it tonight, just stay out of the right lane on the local, some ice and snow build up ,

They live in MD, and I believe the part of I 81 they would take might not be too bad, Reports look to be further north more in the mountains where the trouble was. The worst part of their trip might be Harrisburg proper (shudder, I usually hit that in the rain but then I am trying to find I 81 when I come through that way and that is a lot more lane shifts) and 443.

They say that discretion in the better part of valor, and believe me, towing ANYTHING in this weather takes nerves of steel as well as extreme care. Personally I think ya'll made the right decision, there is always another weekend, though not enough long weekends.

Dee, thanks. I had no trouble getting in today. J had his class at Columbia and then he dropped me off in Bergen Cty (NJ) for K's bball tournament (played Harlem today - we only lost by 7 pts). Tomorrow I need to drive to Cleveland with J - am still trying to find out if I can get there from here. Was told this afternoon that parts of 80 are still closed.

CAPEd CODger

Got here yesterday around 1:00 pm. Travel was a little slow, had to make a few detours, but no problems.
Nice to have a campground all to ourselves.
Food is excellent!
Shame you guys missed out.

Maybe next year?

Di all of the interstates were reopened at 4 PM on Saturday.  Speed limit is 45 and there are icy patches.  Have a safe trip.  Wish I was going with you.:)

I am glad someone is having fun camping.  Want to join us in March when we try to do it again?:)

Cheryl

Hi Tracey,
Appreciate the thought but we will be heading for Florida mid-March to see CAPEd CODger's mom.
It's too bad the roads up your way were so bad because we had a really great time. Pine Grove (and their staff) was fantastic. They accepted the coupon for $40 off camping for each of our sites (Thanks Tracey!) AND we got a 10% off coupon for our Valentines dinner (we had Prime Rib, Lobster Tails, and Crab Cakes!) and then they delivered Valentines bubbly and Chocolates to our campsites! They were great! We spent Saturday in Intercourse (Pa. of course......) and then Sunday we road the Strasburg Railroad to Paradise (Pa. of course......). We road in a vintage restored Parlor Car with a Bar and attendants. It was a blast. Sunday night we had a camp fire and roasted Marshmallows and watched the snowflakes float down. Got home Monday afternoon and unloaded. Everything safe and sound. Missed seeing you all but we enjoyed the experience.

Glad you all had a good time...I was not going to tow in Feb anyway. Sounds great.

We are looking for a new tow vehicle that will pull both the Bantam and the Cabin A.  The F150 is standard trans, making it a bear to back, though I have...and in traffic...I burned out the clutch.  We are saving right now so we have a great DP (so may take a while).  Would like 4 wheel drive and something our 6 1/2' high profile leer cap would fit on. I want an extended cab. not necessarily crew cab. Looks like we will be trading or selling the 2000 F150 out right as we do not need 4 vehicles. Any takers???has right around 30,000 actual (mainly towing, a new clutch, thanks to construction on I 81 and I 80 a couple of years ago). Plenty of time to save as barring any emergencies, it will be closer to the end of the year before I can purchase, unless we find a super good deal sooner.

Have to get the Windstar checked out before towing, check engine light is on and I think it is the tranny, it is slipping a little in the upper gears.

Cheryl you don't have to rub it in!;)   I am glad you had a good time, but really wish I could have got there.  I could get with in 15 miles or so of the campground, but not the last bit.  I ended up taking the PU to my dealer to get the brakes adjusted and the wheel bearings serviced.  I was surprised that they called to day for me to pick it up.  I didn't have an appointment.:)
