Looking for any info on Kickapoo State Park in Ill. I'm considering stopping in there for a "mental health " weekend on Sept 29th. It would be a perfect location since its about 2hrs away from home. We like to fish and bike so any info about that would also be helpful. Thanks!!!

This is a nice campground on a reclaimed strip mine area.  There is a hilly loop around the park that is excellent for bicycling; in fact it is used for some local road bicycle races. Another nearby location to consider would be the Forest Glen county park in Westville. The website for Forest Glen is http://www.vccd.org/giforestglen.html.

I agree.  I grew up near Kickapoo and have watched it get better and better with age.  Camped there for the first time in years about 3 years ago and was thrilled.  There is a canoe rental place there, with a chain of lakes to explore, and good fishing.  Have fun! :U

On the recommendation of this thread (primarily), we made the drive from Indy over to Kickapoo a few days ago. Kids on Spring Break, took a couple days off from work, unusually warm forecast for the beginning of April. Brand new tow vehicle pulling a 1987 Coleman Sun Valley we've used for almost 20 years. Get to the park, find a great spot, start cranking er up and one corner is sagging. The cable broke from it's termination point on one of the posts. Couldn't get the top all the way up, and were it not for two really nice guys who noticed my teenage son and I struggling with it, wouldn't have gotten it back down. That's the great thing about camping, lots of nice people. I regret not getting their names, I was pretty disappointed at having to bag the trip. My younger boy and I took a shot at one of the mountain bike trails, but it was a little too wet which made it hard for him to peddle. It was also too windy to take a canoe onto any of the many beautiful lakes in the park that day.
Anyway, Kickapoo IS a very nice park and we WILL be going back soon, hopefully with a repaired (or maybe even NEW) popup. When we do, I'll post a lengthier (and happier) review of our trip.
Oh well, it was STILL better than being at work.

I also grew up about 5 miles from Kickapoo (in Danville).  It's a very nice park, and I miss it alot now that I've moved away.  If you go to Kickapoo, keep in mind you can also rent canoe's on the middlefork and take a 1/2 or full day canoe trip down one of the most scenic rivers in the country.
