That's right, folks, I heard the word that we northern campers all dread.  That word that reminds us we are moving away from the steamy hot +100

Austin, While your buying that pink stuff for the popup's water system, you also need to buy some of that amber stuff for your own system like Guzzlers gin or Old Overcoat..In winter I much prefer to stay in the more southerly latitudes  just north of the Tropic Of Cancer. Does'nt require nearly as much amber stuff to bear the cold........

Awwwww, Geeeezz ... after this coming in "cold front" passes ... coming in from "u-know-where", and the rain stops and our beautiful indian summer continues in the mountains, will make a trip up that way to bask in all of that. Then when the cold weather returns to the mountains, down to the coastal plains we go, to enjoy some more extended mild camping weather.

(Anyone see where I put that hammock ...?)

Y'all have a great winter up that way ... ya heah?

it's suppose to get 95 degrees here today.. :S  at least it's finally cooling off at night

You heard the "F" word on the radio?  I can go that one better.  We heard the "S" word here in the Colorado mountains this weekend.  Heard the word, and saw it:  SNOW!  I live at about 7,000', and the snow level was about 500' higher, so none in my town.  But it snowed on Friday night and Saturday.

The mountains got a pretty decent layer.  I went hiking yesterday, up to 13,000' (Notch Mountain), and yes, we hiked through ankle-deep stuff.  Always a shock to the sytem, that first snowfall.  But it sure makes the mountains look pretty.

Guess I'd better get going and winterize my PUP, too.

Quote from: waveryGee!!! That sounds like great fun. We have to endure the boring days of sunshine nearly all year long. :S

I know you know what I'm talking about, wavery, but I also have some idea what you are talking about.  I had my fill of SoCal heat in the summer of 2001.  Believe me, I won't forget it.

I may be back to California some time, but like before, it will only be to visit.  It's too hot and the weather too boring down there.

Yep boring..................PLEASE ......spread the word.....It's boring in So Cal :sombraro: .

It's hot as hell too.......90 degrees about 5 days a year where I live and this summers humidity was unbearable at up to 60% on some of those hot days :p .

I know of what you speak too. I grew up in Anoka, Minnesota.  :U Left when I turned 18 and haven't been back since. ;) Just WAYYYY too exciting for my blood. :D

Hi,
I just love this time of year to camp down in Fredericksburg, VA. The leaves on the trees are awesome; fog on the lake in the morning :morning:  when I wake up.  The air is crisp and cleaner - so it seems.
Wow!  can't wait to retire and get the heck outa Washington, DC area....only 20 years to go

My wife's 94-year-old aunt lives in a Monastery in Eerie Pennsylvania. We went to her birthday party last October. Then we went to Niagara Falls and we toured Pennsylvania, NY and Virginia. The Fall colors were amazing.

Where to start...less than 2.5 inches of rain between April and October...might be great for camping, but how exciting are the fires?

We get fires around here, but then, because it really does does rain from time to time (the rain fills 15,000 lakes statewide, after all) there is water to fight the fires.

There are big fires from time to time, too.  But they're so remote that very few people are endangered by them.  There is one in the Gunflint region that has been burning for months.  Seldom even makes the evening news because it's not burning houses down and nobody's being evacuated.

Of course, that never happens in Beverly Hills either, does it?

One of the nice things about leaving Massachusetts was not being told when I could and could not water my lawn.  The well has been in place since 1979 and has never had less than 10 feet of water over the pump level.

Yep.....Dangerous place to live...

This was taken from a friends front porch, in San Diego in 2003:

Sorry, but I don't have any pictures of when most of downtown Anoka was wiped out by tornadoes in 1965 (including our house and everything we owned).

I already posted somewhere else today: Each of us must choose our own poison.

Yep, DD and DW had a close call with a twister one year ago Thursday, two days before her wedding.  They were in the van within 1,000 feet of the monster, and unable to see.  One local weatherman says "We don't live in Tornado Alley, but we do live in Tornado cul-de-sac."

This Saturday, a 10 YO girl was killed by an F2 tornado less than 15 miles from where we live.

But you should not fool yourself into thinking tornadoes can not happen in SoCal.  They certanly can.

yes they can I know of  a few. one was about 2 miles from me a couple of years ago. but what WE call tornados ain't nothin' like you call tornados.  what we freak out and call a tornado you'd call a dust swirl..

I used to work for a company that involved me talking to people all over the US and I'd have more people from the southeast and midwest tell me how they couldn't live in Ca 'cause we got them earthquakes.. but you know like I always say we don't have earthquake SEASON..

wavery

Yep......we do get tornadoes. This is a dangerous place to live and I think that about 8 million people should run for their lives. :D

When I worked in downtown LA, one of our car dealerships got a direct hit by a tornado in about '81. It broke all the windows out and flipped a car over in the showroom. Pretty wild stuff :o .

Dangerous here, that's for sure......the big one is coming soon (earthquake)!!!!. It might be a good idea if about 10 million people get out quick......I'll brave it alone and keep an eye on stuff for them :U .

Oh ya...........don't forget boring.......especially when you have to sit on the freeway, in traffic, for hours on end. Yikes.........then there's those nasty rattle snakes.............and don't forget Great White Sharks.....and don't forget those nuclear power plants and all that stuff that falls off of the space shuttle......Maybe 15 million people better get out quick....fire season is upon us...so they better hurry....I'll hold the fort down....I promise :sombraro: .

Don't forget boring :o  :morning:

OMG...............I almost forgot tsunamis.....I would highly recommend NOT beach camping.........If you have reservations at any beach campgrounds...you'd better cancel them quick....I'd suggest doing it before Oct 15th.......I feel a tsunami coming on.. :yikes:
