Weekly/Monthly Rates?

Is there a good way to talk campsite owners/managers into a special rate for weely or monthly rates?  I attend training away from my home area that last anywhere from two to six weeks.  Most times the State pays for my hotel, but others are my choice to attend and they do not.  I'd really like to stay in my own camper instead of the motel, but some places charge more per night than a motel room!  Any pointers?

Most campgrounds that have long-term rates are aiming those rates at seasonal sites.  That means they are in the seasonal section of the campground, where you would be parked between big-rigs.  If all you are doing is going to the conference 10-12 hours a day and don't mind that, fine.

Some places simply do not want you staying a long time.  In some cases, they don't want you attempting to "establish residence" and claiming their campground as your home.  It has happened.

Sometimes, there are accomodation fees and taxes that end up forcing the owner to charge a bigger nightly fee.   Campgrounds consume a lot of land, and so campgrounds near cities (where I assume your training is happening and taxes and fees are higher) are expensive.  Try looking for a campground that is a little farther away.  If you are near the county line, going into the next county could make a singificant difference.

The only suggestion I can make beyond that is shop around.

I have found that in my particular area the commercial campgrounds all offer weekly and monthly rates. You just gotta look around, I think most commercial parks like having monthlies as it keeps the cash flow alive year round!!

I'm currently paying monthly, and it's only $376 per month, the weekly rate is $125, and the daily rate is $25... That's for water & electric, the 50 amp and sewer sites cost more...

It doesn't hurt to ask about weekly or monthly rates.

Many of the campgrounds that we have stayed at did have a weekly, monthly or seasonal rate.

We are heading for St. Augustine for a month in March and have a monthly rate.  Where you are located will make a difference.

We checked out a couple of campgrounds near Saint Augustine and found about a four hundred dollar difference in a monthly rate.

It never hurts to ask and if you have Good Sam, AARP, AAA or some other organization that a cg will give a discount for, ask for it.  It generallly doesn't cover much more than the state taxes but it is a savings.

Check out Core of Army engineer campgrounds if they are in your area.  They are reasonable and they generally include elec and water.  Generally you are limited to a two week stay.

Some parks do have regular daily, weekly and monthly rates, but others do not.  Oh sure, they list them, but it's no savings ie:  Nightly Rate $23, weekly $161 etc.  I wanna haggle them down, as most of the training locations are in remote, small towns that see little camping!  I do have a Good Sam membership, and it has already paid for itself, but if I can talk them down, then present the card, I'm doing good!  It's only worked once, and I wound up not going!

All you can do is ask and point out that if you camp else where they will not receive any money for the site you would occupy.  I would think you would get further with individually owned campgrounds and not chain campgrounds.  Good luck.:)

Have to disagree with you there... Everywhere I've got prices on variable rates has always proved to have advantages for longer term stays.

I'm currently full timing, right now I'm at Chesapeake Campground. Their monthly rate is $367.40, their weekly rate is $125.40 ($501.60 for 4 weeks), and their daily rate is $24.75 ($693.00 for 28 days or 4 weeks or $767.25 for a full month at 31 days). The savings is significant, saves $399.85 for a month over the daily rate.

Had similar savings at the last place I was at, Davis Lakes Campground in Suffolk Va... I don't have their rate sheet here in front of me, but the cost for daily site was around $30 per night ($210 for 7 nights), the weekly rate was $145, and their monthly rate was $350 + electric (monthly sites had their own electric meter).

And then there are seasonal sites.... these are usually an entire operating season (Spring through Fall) and is paid in full up front. The place I'm at now doesn't offer this, but Davis Lakes did... I don't recall exactly what the seasonal rate was, but remember it to be around $2200 + electric...

It's funny that you can disagree with me about certain sites not having different rates.  I can give you some phone numbers to call around here, but would you really need to do so?  Some of these private CG only have one rate, like a motel room, but I can talk motels into a lower rate for an extended stay.
